From Goodreads:
In a lush, contemporary fantasy retelling of Beauty and the Beast, Brigid Kemmerer gives readers another compulsively readable romance perfect for fans of Marissa Meyer.

Fall in love, break the curse.

It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. Cursed by a powerful enchantress to repeat the autumn of his eighteenth year over and over, he knew he could be saved if a girl fell for him. But that was before he learned that at the end of each autumn, he would turn into a vicious beast hell-bent on destruction. That was before he destroyed his castle, his family, and every last shred of hope.

Nothing has ever been easy for Harper Lacy. With her father long gone, her mother dying, and her brother barely holding their family together while constantly underestimating her because of her cerebral palsy, she learned to be tough enough to survive. But when she tries to save someone else on the streets of Washington, DC, she's instead somehow sucked into Rhen's cursed world.

Break the curse, save the kingdom.

A prince? A monster? A curse? Harper doesn't know where she is or what to believe. But as she spends time with Rhen in this enchanted land, she begins to understand what's at stake. And as Rhen realizes Harper is not just another girl to charm, his hope comes flooding back. But powerful forces are standing against Emberfall . . . and it will take more than a broken curse to save Harper, Rhen, and his people from utter ruin.

"The choices we face may not be the choices we want, but they are choices nonetheless."

There are no words to explain just how excited I was for this book. I've been a huge fan of Brigid Kemmerer for years and I have read and loved every single book that she has wrote to date. I absolutely adore YA fairytale retellings, and with Beauty and the Beast being my favourite fairytale, you can imagine my utter excitement for this book. I had such high expectations for A Curse So Dark and Lonely... and Brigid just exceeded every single one of them. In my opinion this book was utter perfection.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely follows the story of Harper, a teen living with Cerebral Palsy and trying to stay strong for her struggling family when she is suddenly kidnapped and taken to the magical world of Emberfall. Here she finds a cursed world that is being terrorised by a monster and a powerful sorceress. Harper is suddenly caught up in this magical world and she is determined to make Prince Rhen act to save his people rather than give up and wait for more doom.

I loved Harper so so so much. She has to be one of my all-time favourite heroines of a book. At the beginning of the book she is seen by her brother as someone who needs to be protected as she is vulnerable with her health condition but she just goes from strength to strength throughout the book and ends up being a warrior willing to do anything to save the people of Emberfall. I loved that she had this vulnerability that was pre-ordained by her condition but that she wouldn't let it stop her doing anything and that made her one of the most kick-ass heroiens of all time. I adored her.

Brigid Kemmerer really does have an incredible knack for storytelling. I've loved all of her books and I am so damn happy that she has wrote a fantasy series. Fantasy is, and will always be, my all-time favourite genre of book and to see a favourite author write one and do it so flawlessly warms my little bookworm heart more than you can imagine. I was compeltely enraptured by this world and story right from the very first page and I loved every single moment of it. I couldn't put this book down and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely is everything I could have hoped for a more. It was my most-anticipated novel of 2019 and it did not disappoint. It was filled to the brim with action, magic, intrigue and heart-melting romance. I cannot praise this book enough and I can't wait to see what will happen in the next book. Roll on book two, I absolutely cannot wait!

"Failure isn't absolute. Just because you couldn't save everyone doesn't mean you didn't save anyone."
