From Goodreads:
Inspired by the legend of Tristan and Iseult, Wild Savage Stars is the spellbinding sequel to Sweet Black Waves.
Branwen has a secret powerful enough to destroy two kingdoms.
Her ancient magic led to a terrible betrayal by both her best friend, the princess Essy, and her first love, Tristan. Now this same magic is changing Branwen. Adrift in a rival court, Branwen must hide the truth from the enemy king by protecting the lovers who broke her heart―and finds herself considering a darker path.
Not everyone wants the alliance with Branwen’s kingdom to succeed―peace is balanced on a knife’s edge, and her only chance may be to embrace the darkness within…
Wild Savage Stars was without a doubt one of my most anticipated reads of 2019. The first book in this series, Sweet Black Waves was one of my favourite reads of 2018. I loved every single second of it. Tristan and Isolde is one my favourite tales ever so I was super excited to find a YA retelling of it. For some reason when I got Wild Savage Stars it sat on my shelf for months before I finally picked it up. I am so very glad that I finally did as I loved it even more than the first book. It was just incredibly and so difficult to put down.
The ending of Sweet Black Waves totally broke my heart and I think that's one of the reasons that I didn't pick this one up as soon as I got it. I just wasn't ready to relive that heartache. This book did break my heart a little as I am still not over what Tristan did to Branwen but we are introduced to many new characters in this book and I love them. They definitely started fixing my broken heart and even had me falling head over heels in love with Ruan... a new, incredible love interest for our brokenhearted Branwen. Honestly I still love Tristan but Ruan is just so much better and Branwen deserves that something better.
One of the things I love most about this book in the fantastical elements woven in to the historical tale of Tristan and Isolde. At the heart of this book is heartstopping romance but I love that Branwen is this magic-weilding healer who is totally kick-ass and does what she wants and thinks is right for everyone... not just her loved ones. She is the perfect heroine to follow through this story and I love her so much.
Wild Savage Stars was just what is says on the cover. It was a wild ride and I loved every single moment of it. I honestly cannot wait to get my hands on the third book in the trilogy. It's going to be heartwrenching... I know it is but I am so ready to get my heart broken and hopefully healed again along with these characters. If you love a fantasy book that's also a tiny bit of a retelling this is the perfect series for you. It's incredible and I highly recommend it.
