From Goodreads:
After battling the impossible, Zélie and Amari have finally succeeded in bringing magic back to the land of Orïsha. But the ritual was more powerful than they could’ve imagined, reigniting the powers of not only the maji, but of nobles with magic ancestry, too.

Now, Zélie struggles to unite the maji in an Orïsha where the enemy is just as powerful as they are. But when the monarchy and military unite to keep control of Orïsha, Zélie must fight to secure Amari's right to the throne and protect the new maji from the monarchy's wrath.

With civil war looming on the horizon, Zélie finds herself at a breaking point: she must discover a way to bring the kingdom together or watch as Orïsha tears itself apart.

Children of Virtue and Vengeance is the stunning sequel to Tomi Adeyemi's New York Times bestselling debut Children of Blood and Bone, the first title in her Legacy of Orïsha trilogy.

"We're the children of the gods. If someone's running away, it's not going to be us."

Children of Virtue and Vengeance was without a doubt one of my most anticipated releases of 2019. I absolutely adored the first book in this series Children of Blood and Bone and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen, especially after the excitement of the ending. Children of Virtue and Vengeance did not disappoint at all! I loved every single moment of this book and I couldn't put it down.

Children of Virtue and Vengeance picks up right where the first book left off. With magic back in the world and people not really knowing what to do. Amari and Zeli find themselves in a crisis, stuck between the magical races thrilled to have their magic back and the non-magical folk terrified of them. They don't know who they can trust and whether they can even trust each other. Can they survive the fallout from their actions?

This book was definitely a game changer. Anything that I thought I had figured out from the first book was flipped on its head. I honestly thought that I had these characters sussed out and I absolutely didn't. My opinions of the characters completely switched throughout this book. I went from loving Zelie and being irritated at Amari one second to it switching and me feeling the total opposite for both of them. The actions of both characters were such shocks and it definitely changed my mind about everyone and everything.

Tomi Adeyemi is such a phenomenal author. Honestly, I cannot praise her narration and storytelling enough. She is just an absolutely stunning and incredible author. She builds up this incredible mythology and fantastical world and makes it feel so real and like these characters are your family. That is how I feel with this series. I love so many of the characters like they are friends and family and if anything happens to them it broke my heart completely. I loved every single, heartbreaking second of this book and I cannot wait to get my hands on the final instalment.

Children of Virtue and Vengeance is filled to the brim with twists and turns and it will leave you gaping open-mouthed at the pages. I loved every single second of it. This is definitely one of my favourite fantasy series of all time. If you're a fan of fantasy I highly recommend this series if you haven't read it already. It was stunning, beautiful and magical. I can't wait for book three.

"This land, these temples - they're not what matters. As long as we have each other, we will carry Orisha in our veins. No one can ever take that away."
