This book was absolutely phenomenal! It's no secret that I have been a huge fan of Sarah J Maas since her debut Throne of Glass. Sarah J Maas is the reason that I actually read Epic Fantasy. Before her books I was never a fan but knowing that her stories originated from fairytales I had to give them a go... and now fantasy is one of my all time favourite genres. Hearing that she was coming out with a brand new fantasy series, this time originating as a retelling of Beauty and the Beast (my favourite fairytale) I could not wait to get my hands on it. I was not disappointed in the slightest.
Fayre has been the head of her family since the death of her mother. With her father and her sisters depending on her she is the only one who can hunt in order to keep them alive. But when she kills a magical wolf she is forced to leave her family and enter the magical kingdom of the fae... the beings that she has always been terrified of. As Feyre and the strikingly mysterious and beautiful fae that she is living with start to grow closer Feyre discovers she must break an ancient curse or lose him forever... Can she break the curse or are they destined to be torn apart?
Sarah J Maas is officially Queen of YA Fantasy. No matter what other fantasy books I read, I love Sarah's so much more. Nothing really matches up to her. She is fast becoming my favourite author, shared with JLA of course. There is nothing this woman can write that I will not love. She is definitely on my auto-buy-authors list. I adore her!
A Court of Thorns and Roses is one of the best YA Fantasy books I read to date. I think this one really surpassed even Throne of Glass. I admit that I found it a little bit slow to start, with all the world building of the new world, but I do find this with a lot of fantasy books. I always find the first book slightly slow due to the introduction to the new world but once the storyline took over I was absolutely head-over-heels in love with it.
A Court of Thorns and Roses is definitely more linked towards its fairytale than Throne of Glass. With Throne of Glass it's so different from Cinderella that you can't really see the original fairytale in there but with A Court of Thorns and Roses you can really see the link to Beauty and the Beast and that is what I absolutely loved about it. It just made the storyline that much more enjoyable about it and so much more addictive. I couldn't put it down.
Feyre is such a great lead character. I loved her right from the start. She is so kick-ass and amazing. She is the kind of character that I absolutely love reading about. Enter Tamlin... our beast... our fae captor... I am officially in love with him. He is absolutely amazing! He is super cool, and a total sweetie deep down. I loved how his and Feyre's relationship developed throughout the book. It was just such an amazing journey to follow.
A Court of Thorns and Roses is officially my favourite YA Fantasy book. I absolutely adored it. It has a slow-burning romance and kick-ass action. I loved every single moment of it and I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book.
