From Goodreads:
As Caden and Brighton's attraction grows despite the odds stacked against a happily ever after, they must work together to stop an Ancient fae from releasing the Queen, who wants nothing more than to see Caden become the evil Prince once feared by fae and mortals alike.
It's no surprise to anyone who knows me, or who has followed me for a while, how much I absolutely adore Jennifer L Armentrout. I have absolutely adored her and her work since I read her first release back in 2011 and I still get ridiculously over-excited about a new book from her 8 years later. So you can imagine my excitement to receive The King for review. The Wicked Trilogy is one of my favourite series of hers, me loving fantasy/paranormal series way more than contemporary books, so I absolutely couldn't wait to dive back into this incredible world.
It's been a while since I read anything in this series and sometimes that worries me as I have the worst memory. One thing that is so brilliant about Jennifer's storytelling abilities is that she gives you little hints about what has happened previously to jog your memory, without it feeling repetitive. Within just a few pages of this novella I remembered what had happened previously and was once again sucked into this incredible world. I couldn't read this one fast enough.
The King was incredibly difficult to put down and I read it in one sitting. I loved every single moment of it and just when I thought I couldn't be surprised any more, Jen surprises me once again. I love the characters of Brighton and Cadan and I honestly couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen to them. I absolutely loved going on this journey with them and once again I was left dying for more. This novella brings out all of the feels. One moment I was so incredibly happy and swooning over what was happening, the next I was completely heartbroken and crying. Only Jen can do this to me.
The King was a perfect instalment to the Wicked Trilogy and it just made me want more and more. I loved every moment of it and highly recommend these novellas for anyone who is a fan of the series. A definite must-read and I cannot wait to read more.
