From Goodreads:
The eagerly-awaited conclusion to the Scarlet trilogy delivers another action-packed and romance-filled adventure.
Scarlet has captured the hearts of readers as well as the heart of Robin Hood, and after ceaseless obstacles and countless threats, readers will finally find out the fate of the Lady Thief.
Imprisoned by Prince John for months, Scarlet finds herself a long way from Nottinghamshire. After a daring escape from the Prince's clutches, she learns that King Richard’s life is in jeopardy, and Eleanor of Aquitaine demands a service Scarlet can’t refuse: spy for her and help bring Richard home safe. But fate—and her heart—won’t allow her to stay away from Nottinghamshire for long, and together, Scarlet and Rob must stop Prince John from going through with his dark plans for England. They can not rest until he’s stopped, but will their love be enough to save them once and for all?
"Stories are told to make you feel something, and they can tell ours over and over again, and every time it will be something different."
I read Scarlet what feels like forever ago. It was about 4 or 5 years ago and as part of my challenge to catch up and finish my series that I have started, I finally picked up the other books in this series. After finished the second book in this trilogy, Lady Thief, I couldn't help but pick the final book up immediately. I am so glad I did as well. Lion Heart was a fantastic conclusion to a fantastic series.
Lion Heart follows the rollercoaster love story of Scarlet and Rob. It's a retelling to die for and after the explosive ending of the second book I was both excited and nervous about what was going to happen in Lion Heart. There were twists and turns galore throughout this book and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I adore retellings and Robin Hood is one of my favourite storylines to follow. Right from the start of this series I was completely hooked and this continued right through to the very end.
Scarlet is the first series that I have read from AC Gaughen and I am officially a fan. I have loved every moment of this series and it is down to AC's fantastic story telling and characterisations. She made me fall in love with a new version of the world's most famous vigilante tale. Right from the start I loved these characters that were familiar but also completely new and different. It's what makes this one of my favourite retellings I've read. I will most definitely be picking up her other series in the future.
Lion Heart was fantastic. It made me fall in love even more than I already had. It was fast-paced, action-packed and heartwarmingly romantic. It had everything you could possibly want in a book. My one complaint about it, and I promise it's only a small one, is that the ending was a bit too fast for me. I found myself trying to turn the page as I felt like there should have been more. I personally didn't feel like everything was wrapped up and I still had so many questions that went unanswered. The ending was still brilliant and I loved it, but I would love to have another book, or novella, to find out what happened next.
If you're a fan of YA books and fairytale retellings, I highly recommend AC Gaughen's Scarlet series. It was beautiful and romantic and just perfect. It is definitely one that I will re-read and love over and over again. It was utterly beautiful storytelling at its best. A must read.
"It seems a precious thing, for someone to know the very worst part of you and love you anyway."
