Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone...

A convict with a thirst for revenge.

A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager.

A runaway with a privileged past.

A spy known as the Wraith.

A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.

A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana’s story is finally told.

From Goodreads:
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series.

"But no. She didn't want to be Channary. She didn't want her beauty, not if it came with her cruelty and selfishness as well."

I fell head over heels in love with this series late last year when I listened to the audio edition of Cinder. This book that I thought would just be like any other fairytale retelling but boy was I wrong. I had soon devoured the other 2 in the series and I am dying to read Winter, the conclusion of the series. Saying that initially I was unsure if I wanted to read Fairest. A book that wasn't necessary for the series and that centered on the series villian Queen Levana. Before reading this book I hated Queen Levana... with a passion. But I just could not resist Marissa Meyer's writing and really I was curious as to what made Levana so evil.

I am so freaking glad I read Fairest. It was so great. I ended up really enjoying it and I really enjoyed being in Levana's head... even as twisted and cruel as it is. Levana was the second in line for the throne and when her sister Channary becomes Queen after the untimely death of her parents Levana can't help but hate that all her sister seems to care about it wooing and bedding the majority of the court. Why couldn't she care about the future of their planet? As Channary is a bully and a flirt Levana can't help but feel like she should be queen instead.

Throughout this book I really started to feel sorry for Levana. She had such a horrible childhood, from being the ignored child to being the victim of cruel bullying from her older sister. Although I felt for her she still had this cruelness underneath it all. From the thoughts of getting rid of her crush's wife after learning of his love for her to her more awful things portrayed in the Lunar Chronicles. I really liked getting into her head and finding out what makes her tick.

The other thing I loved is seeing all this stuff being put into motion that we see come to frution in the main books. From Levana's cruelness and wanting to connect Lunar and Earth, to finding out who Cinder's parents are to the ride of Letimosis. I loved all of that and so I am so glad I decided to read this.

Fairest was a great addition to the Lunar Chronicles series. As a prequel and as a companion. I really enjoyed getting inside Queen Levana's head and I really hope every fan of this series decide to read this book as it really adds meaning to so many things in the series. As always Marissa Meyer's writing was phenomenal and I really enjoyed reading this one. I cannot wait for October to get here so I can read Winter.

Fairest was awesome and a must-read for any fan of the other books in this series.

A Madness So Discreet
Mindy McGinnis

Published By: Katherine Tegan Books

Genre: YA - Mystery / Thriller
 photo goodreads-badge-add-plus-d700d4d3e3c0b346066731ac07b7fe47_zps3cd819f5.png

From Goodreads:
Grace Mae knows madness. She keeps it locked away, along with her voice, trapped deep inside a brilliant mind that cannot forget horrific family secrets. Those secrets, along with the bulge in her belly, land her in a Boston insane asylum.

When her voice returns in a burst of violence, Grace is banished to the dark cellars where her mind is discovered by a visiting doctor who dabbles in the new study of criminal psychology. With her keen eyes and sharp memory, Grace will make the perfect assistant at crime scenes. Escaping from Boston to the safety of an ethical Ohio asylum, Grace finds friendship and hope, hints of a life she should have had. But gruesome nights bring Grace and the doctor into the circle of a killer who stalks young women. Grace, continuing to operate under the cloak of madness, must hunt a murderer while she confronts the demons in her own past.

In this beautifully twisted historical thriller, Mindy McGinnis, acclaimed author of Not a Drop to Drink and In a Handful of Dust, explores the fine line between sanity and insanity, good and evil—and the madness that exists in all of us.

This is definitely not my typical genre. I have only read one mystery/thriller book that I have actually liked but I think this one sounds really interesting so I'm definitely planning on giving this one a go.

From Goodreads:
A heartbroken girl. A fierce warrior. A hero in the making.

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.

So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

"That, I think, is a truer mark of belonging somewhere - being willing to do anything, everything, that needs to be done, regardless of what I want."

Snow Like Ashes was one of those books that I had had on my kindle from the day of release but I just never got round to reading it. God Why the hell did I not read it straight away? I absolutely adored this book. High Fantasy never used to be a genre that I enjoyed it was just ok for me until a year or two ago when I was asked to review this little book that was coming out called Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. It blew me away and I have been a huge fan of High Fantasy ever since. Since that day I have been searching high and low for a YA High Fantasy book that blew me away and knocked my socks off just as much as Throne of Glass did and I have never been successful in finding it... Until NOW! Snow Like Ashes blew me away, took my breath away and left me reeling. I cannot believe how amazing and phenomenal is and I just can't stop gushing... Obviously I mean look how much I've wrote and this is only the first paragraph.

Meira is one of Winter's refugees. The only ones left. Ever since Spring conquered Winter the Winterians have been on the run. Most enslaved by Spring but some refugees working to claim Winter once again. Meira has always wanted to be a warrior for Winter. She has been training since a young child and she knows she is ready. But when successfully completing her first mission doesn't get the response she was hoping for Meira is thrown into a unknown world and faced with having to do things she never would have dreamed. Can Meira take claim of her own actions and destiny? Or is destiny already running things for her?

I love, love, love this book so freaking much. It had absolutely everything that I could have ever wanted. It was action-packed with scenes that had me on the edge of my seat not able to turn the pages fast enough and romance that completely and utterly melted my heart. I loved it. Meira was such an amazing heroine. She is fiesty and fierce and will do anything to bring back Winter. When faced with the impossible and things she doesn't want to do she still does what's best for their mission and aim. I completely sympathise with her and I just loved her.

Snow Like Ashes had a love triangle unlike any other love triangles I have come across. It did not dominate the entire storyline. The love triangle was more in the back ground that just complimented the story rather than taking control of the story. This was so well done in my opinion. I love romance in books as much as any other YA reader but the best ones are always the ones that take the back-seat to the story in my opinion. Also I loved both guys. And that NEVER happens. Mather was the one that at the beginning of the book I completely believed I would be shipping. But the more and more I read the more I fell in love with Theron. Theron is sweet, beautiful and caring and I just adore him so much. Even though I love them both I am definitely Team Theron. He's just so wonderful.

Snow Like Ashes was everything I could have hoped for and more. I loved every moment of it and it completely left me reeling for the next book in the series. Sara is such a phenomenal storyteller that a part of me cannot believe that this is her debut novel. It has everything I could have wanted in it and more. Ice Like Fire cannot get here fast enough. I need it and I have definitely got a new favourite YA High Fantasy novel. I cannot recommend this book enough.

"No matter what happens, no matter who turns on me, no matter what pompous swine thinks he has power over me, I am still me. I will always be me."

Review: Midnight Frost (Mythos Academy #5)

Midnight Frost (Mythos Academy #5)

Published By: K-Teen
Publication Date: July 30, 2013

Genre: YA - Mythology

Format: E-Book

From Goodreads:
Here we go again …

Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can’t get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquities — until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I’m still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.

As Nike’s Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I’m still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I’ve got to get my hands on the antidote fast — otherwise, an innocent person will die. But the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins — and the Reapers are sure to be waiting for me there …

The Mythos Academy series is fast becoming one of my favourites. It's no surprise to anyone how much of a mythology fan I am so I instantly adore the majority of the YA series that have mythology in. This one is most definitely one of my favourites. I love that there isn't just Greek mythology or Norse mythology it incorporates all of them together adn that just makes this series even better.

Gwen and her friends are still left reeling after the latest fight against Loki and his Reapers. Dealing with that and the blow of one of their own leaving Mythos Academy indefinitely things just aren't quite the same for Gwen and the others. But life must go on and after having a lead that takes them away from their Academy Gwen, Daphne, Carson and the gang must go looking for a mystical plant that can head one of their loved ones. But will they be able to find it... or is it a wild goose chase and a trap with the Reapers.

Midnight Frost is one book I loved... but it is my least favourite of the series so far... for one main reason. I missed Logan so freaking much. Logan is one of my favourite characters and he really left a hole when he left Mythos Academy at the end of the last book. All the way through I just found myself wondering when will Logan come back. I need Logan to come back and that completely took away from my overall enjoyment from the book.

As per usual Gwen was a kick-ass heroine and she is always pushing on and doing what she needs to do as Nike's Champion. I love Gwen. She is absolutely one of my favourite heroines ever and her 'Geek Squad' are so freaking amazing. I adore them. I want friends like Gwen's.

Midnight Frost was a great addition to the series and I just cannot wait to get my teeth into the final book of this series. As sad as I am to see this series end I just cannot wait to see how it all ends.

From Goodreads:
When the glass slipper just doesn’t fit…

The tale of Cinderella has been retold countless times. But what you know is not the true story.

Pin has no recollection of who she is or how she got to the Godmother’s fortress. She only knows that she is a Seamstress, working day in and out to make ball gowns fit for fairy tales. But she longs to forsake her backbreaking servitude and dares to escape with the brave young Shoemaker.

Pin isn’t free for long before she’s captured again and forced to live the new life the Godmother chooses for her—a fairy tale story, complete with a charming prince—instead of finding her own happily ever after.

Sarah Prineas’s bold fairy tale retelling is a dark and captivating world where swords are more fitting than slippers, young shoemakers are just as striking as princes, and a heroine is more than ready to rescue herself before the clock strikes midnight.

As soon as I saw the cover reveal for this book in my newsfeed via Epic Reads I fell in love. This cover is gorgeous. hen you can imagine my excitement when I, a huge fan of fairytale retellings, found out this was a twist on the Cinderella fairytale. I genuinelly cannot wait to get my hands on this book. It sounds and looks amazing.

From Goodreads:
In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

"It always came back to love. More than freedom, more than acceptance—love. True love, like they sang about in the second era. The kind that filled up a person's soul. The kind that lent itself to dramatic gestures and sacrifices. The kind that was irresistible and all-encompassing."

Cress, the third installment in the phenomenal Lunar Chronicles was everything that I could have hoped for and more. This is such an amazing series that I have loved reading so far. I am a huge fan of fairytale retellings and I am a huge fan of sci-fi-eske books but never could I have imagined putting the two of them together until reading this series... and it works... amazingly well. I fell in love with the characters and the world and the storyline in Cinder and Scarlet and I absolutely loved them. Cress was an amazing installment of the series.

Cinder and Captain Thorne are on the run with Scarlet and Wolf. Their only hope of overthrowing Queen Levana and her army is getting some inside information. This comes in the form of Cress, a girl who has been trapped in a Satellite all her life and doing things under Queen Levana's orders. But when the rescue of Cress goes awry everyone is seperated. Can they find a way back together along with the information and plan that they need? Or are they to be forever torn apart from each other?

I absolutely loved Cress. I think this is most definitely my favourite of the series to date. I loved every single moment of it. One thing I love about this series is that although we have the main characters from the first book in each book we get their continuation as well as somebody else's own individual story. In Cinder we had Cinder and Prince Kai's story which was continued in Scarlet with the addition of Scarlet and Wolf's story. And then both of those stories were continued on in Cress with the addition of Cress and Thorne's story. I loved Cress and Thorne's story. They are both just too awesome and cute to deal with.

Cress is unlike any of the other heroines in the series to date. We had Cinder who is crazy smart and daring, then Scarlet who was fierce and loyal. Cress is shy, meek and timid which was totally refreshing. The wonderful thing that Marissa Meyer did with this one was although we had a very shy and timid character was very much in need of rescuing she wrote her in a way that didn't come across as annoying or needy. We got to see Cress grow into a strong character who can deal with everything in her own individual way. Just because she is shy and timid doesn't mean she isn't just as strong and fierce as the others. I loved that. Cress has just become my favourite heroine of the series so far. I love her.

Cress was action-packed to the brim and just when I thought that I had everything figured out a massive twist was thrown in that threw me way off course. I love it when authors can do this as I really hate it when I can predict everything as that becomes really boring. I loved the development of the story and Cress was really the book that was putting all the pieces into place leading up to the big finale.

I could not be more excited to read Winter. We were briefly introduced to Princess Winter in this book and I already love her and am very intrigued to find out more about her. As sad as I am going to be to see this fantastic series end I cannot wait to see how it all pans out and I have my fingers crossed that we can have a nice happy fairytale ending for Cinder and Kai, Scarlet and Wolf and Cress and Thorne.

Overall Cress was a phenomenal installment to this amazing series. It was action-packed and breathtaking. If you haven't already read this series you certainly need to do so. I absolutely adore it.

"Maybe there isn’t such a thing as fate. Maybe it’s just the opportunities we’re given, and what we do with them. I’m beginning to think that maybe great, epic romances don’t just happen. We have to make them ourselves."

Dear The Maze Runner by James Dashner,
I wanted to love you so very much. I really really did. You seemed to perfect for me. YA which is all I ever love. Dystopia which is a favourite genre of mine and so many friends who adored you. You even have a blockbuster movie based on you which I loved. Maybe it's my fault. Maybe I should have read your pages before watching the movie that is based on you. But I didn't. I watched the movie first and loved it. Maybe that's why I went into reading you with such high expectations that you didn't seem to reach. I'm sorry.

Just so you know I do believe your author is amazing. James did a wonderful job in writing you. The writing style in which he used was great and made me relate to your characters so well so he is clearly a very talented author. And your story is undoubtedly wonderful. I loved it translated to the big screen and I can't wait to watch the movie based from your sequel, The Scorch Trials. And really I gave you a chance. This is they third time I have picked you up to read you and the third time I have had to put you down. You are undoubtedly wonderful but you are just a little but too slow getting to the plot for me. I'm not a patient person and I have decided that you and I are just not meant to be. Please forgive me. I will watch your movies.

Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.

Until he meets Anna Whitt—sweet, smart, feisty, and inexplicably good—the one girl seemingly immune to his charms. The daughter of a guardian angel and a fallen one, she has a certain power over him, one that makes him wish for more than he could ever deserve.

Determined to save all the Neph from their dark lives as the influencers of sin, Anna joins forces with Kaidan to overcome the demons’ oppressive ways. In the light of her affections, Kaidan must undergo his toughest test of all, a battle of the heart.

Sensual and swoon worthy, this companion volume to the acclaimed Sweet Evil series from New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins, told from the perspective of the irresistibly sexy and mysterious Kaidan Rowe, gives readers revealing insights into his struggle, his intense connection to Anna, and most of all, the true emotions that drive him.

So it totally irritates me that it says 'Sweet Trilogy #4' it's not a trilogy if there is a book 4... but I do know that really it's a companion novel so I guess it's not that bad...

The Entire Sweet Trilogy from Kaidan Rowe's perspective?
I cannot wait to have this in my hands... is it September yet?
