Switching from Blogger to WordpressOver the next few days you're going to see some pretty major changes going on with K-Books. I created K-Books almost 9 years ago. It was my little space on the internet where I could be completely myself, in all my book-nerd glory. I feel over the past year or so the blog has stalled a little bit. I post pretty much the exact same things all the time and I'm trying really hard to revive K-Books and kick-start it into being even better than it already is.<div><br /></div><div>The first step in this is switching my blog over from Blogger to my very own self-hosted WordPress blog. I've been debating self-hosting and making the switch to WordPress for years but felt like it just wasn't the right time. Blogger has done some updates lately and I actually hate it. I find it so difficult to use and create posts now. I'm not a very techie person so this has been an absolute nightmare for me. It actually made me not want to blog at all, which is awful because I absolutely love blogging. It was the final push and after discussing it with <font color="#7b1fa2"><a href="www.booksnest.co.uk" target="_blank">Beth from Books Nest</a> </font>she told me about the hosting company she used who can switch the whole thing over for me.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'm also taking this opportunity to create a whole new clean look for K-Books... it'll be a whole new, and hopefully better K-Books. I'm really excited about it and that's a huge thing for me as I haven't been excited about blogging for a while. It's started to feel a bit like a chore as I always post the same thing, my reviews, and I just feel a bit 'urgh' about it sometimes. I've been scouring some book blogs to get some inspiration and while my reviews are staying they will be mixed in with some new other bookish posts as well and I can't wait to get started on the new WordPress blog. </div><div><br /></div><div>This does mean that the URL will change, but ensure you follow me on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/kbooks12" target="_blank"><font color="#7b1fa2">Facebook</font></a>, <font color="#7b1fa2"><a href="www.instagram.com/kbooks12" target="_blank">Instagram</a> </font>or <a href="www.twitter.com/k__books" target="_blank"><font color="#7b1fa2">Twitter</font></a> to get the new URL when it's switched over. The switch is happening this week and it could take a couple of hours/days to complete. Due to this I will not be posting on the blog until it's all switched over and sorted. Thank you for sticking with me these past 9 years and I hope to see you on the other side for the new and improved K-Books.</div><div><br /></div><div>Lots of bookish love to you all,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg_3ySHYiE2A3v03zaHzlkTdp2bgUwD8YYz3WcBO0sDJTs0picuhPZSBxZ2AkCXtLM6tvBR5zi_VDl3jRrhxsIpf6RRSz_CTWkbJdjjvH0eKkxeT6eRa7fzs2JoIHV1OXq6YE42AA471x4/s300/kayleigh.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="100" data-original-width="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg_3ySHYiE2A3v03zaHzlkTdp2bgUwD8YYz3WcBO0sDJTs0picuhPZSBxZ2AkCXtLM6tvBR5zi_VDl3jRrhxsIpf6RRSz_CTWkbJdjjvH0eKkxeT6eRa7fzs2JoIHV1OXq6YE42AA471x4/" /></a></div><div><br /></div>Kayleigh @ K-Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00561443652211354021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5360124785485400309.post-4804276779075510622020-07-04T10:30:00.001+01:002020-07-04T10:30:09.335+01:00Review: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (The Chronicles of Narnia #2)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8lBqlKzX7W0HSgF-pSk8unApKLGOGX7-T10KKigJUO3s5IZqYCKoduBQTUO_ie9nV04wFkUfxjkWgUeeuJKS95-GGHJ8K0e5Nf86RAXdON4iqoaN0SnBdCoSKFy9azsdJBno_IPEypXpD/s475/lion+the+witch+and+the+wardrobe.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="475" data-original-width="296" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8lBqlKzX7W0HSgF-pSk8unApKLGOGX7-T10KKigJUO3s5IZqYCKoduBQTUO_ie9nV04wFkUfxjkWgUeeuJKS95-GGHJ8K0e5Nf86RAXdON4iqoaN0SnBdCoSKFy9azsdJBno_IPEypXpD/s320/lion+the+witch+and+the+wardrobe.jpg" /></a><div style="text-align: left;">The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (The Chronicles of Narnia #2)</div><div style="text-align: left;">CS Lewis</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><font face="trebuchet"><b>Published By:</b> Grafton Publishing</font></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Publication Date:</b> October 16, 1950</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Date Read:</b> June 5, 2020</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Genre:</b> Children's - Fantasy</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Source:</b> Bought</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Format:</b> Paperback</div><div style="text-align: left;"><b>Pages:</b> 171</div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3093361-the-lion-the-witch-and-the-wardrobe" target="_blank"><img alt="" border="0" data-original-height="41" data-original-width="130" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivRHkZ7RRHkWJ5ajOzUsmpBLoagLvvKdECHjc7V3-qRt5M5EMPaeW7VHq7LudzVzb9v2JxQ5N7IHWWiBiSiUM9HZ2CtMPWkTYfUxVlN34wg6IycTNPSekMWJVVhslWWx1JV4VSjzGDyhMU/s1600/AddtoGoodreads.png" /></a> </div><blockquote><div style="text-align: left;"><b>From Goodreads:<br /></b><i>They open a door and enter a world.</i></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">NARNIA... the land beyond the wardrobe, the secret country known only to Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy... the place where the adventure begins.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Lucy is the first to find the secret of the wardrobe in the professor's mysterious old house. I remember my Mum reading me this over and over again when I was a kid. I was so excited to pick this back up as an adult and I couldn't wait to see what my thoughts were. I loved reading this book. It was so nostalgic for me to come back to this one after so many years and I really enjoyed it. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I pretty much knew every word of this book. I knew every part of the story and how it happened. I loved reading it again and I fell in love with this world and the characters all over again. And yet again I was left really sad that I can't reach Narnia through my own wardrobe. It's the one thing I've always wanted. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Is this book the best wrote book in the world? No, not even close. But I absolutely loved it anyway. I've never read any of the books past this one so I can't wait to continue through these adventures in Narnia. If you're a lover of children's books and wonderful adventures you should definitely read this series. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b><i>"If ever they remembered their life in this world it was as one would remember a dream."</i></b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b><i><br /></i></b></div><div style="text-align: left;"><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikY0b11TnNrLnaStwZVnOacO-GcKh8KtcuSeSTY9NLlkd06cuK2nhEf7LqqUnFQ_c2BSziHkzHUnsDae9xLAgJTmLOFeOX_f7GN9UX9Koma9UpfzrkEC-UhvB25ACwbgSxUUaIqmcCjojc/s250/4star.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="103" data-original-width="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikY0b11TnNrLnaStwZVnOacO-GcKh8KtcuSeSTY9NLlkd06cuK2nhEf7LqqUnFQ_c2BSziHkzHUnsDae9xLAgJTmLOFeOX_f7GN9UX9Koma9UpfzrkEC-UhvB25ACwbgSxUUaIqmcCjojc/" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWh2bFRaoHEm_hEUrZTRIqWQySF_ihL0Hxv9A5PQZooOIQ9UCvGWWRmjCCqZQfJ_qTA2qlCy5IMeTLjzHVvYdCFmr0K7UwXAfSZE1x3uYWOfhFCAqxVzX3sZZAOimqAHR7DfsdZQM-HHc4/s300/kayleigh.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="100" data-original-width="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWh2bFRaoHEm_hEUrZTRIqWQySF_ihL0Hxv9A5PQZooOIQ9UCvGWWRmjCCqZQfJ_qTA2qlCy5IMeTLjzHVvYdCFmr0K7UwXAfSZE1x3uYWOfhFCAqxVzX3sZZAOimqAHR7DfsdZQM-HHc4/" /></a></div><i><br /></i></b></div></div>Kayleigh @ K-Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00561443652211354021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5360124785485400309.post-16116098055369033362020-07-01T10:30:00.001+01:002020-07-01T10:30:04.139+01:00Wrap Up: June 2020<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhpPGod813jdOwXU3Zn4kV67pHzgQaPRPS3FNkVYciT7CH9IiV4zTFlHrlyiIiR62kzgtXd8zdcJS7vLULpHEvs0kD5gMY6_aOr2zAaUROQ5zgkTLkwGwlJs2MN0oInHfXbpLstO4AQLPs/s1000/June.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="357" data-original-width="1000" height="143" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhpPGod813jdOwXU3Zn4kV67pHzgQaPRPS3FNkVYciT7CH9IiV4zTFlHrlyiIiR62kzgtXd8zdcJS7vLULpHEvs0kD5gMY6_aOr2zAaUROQ5zgkTLkwGwlJs2MN0oInHfXbpLstO4AQLPs/w400-h143/June.png" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Hey Guys,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Can you believe it's the end of June already? When Digory and Polly discover Uncle Andrew's secret workshop, they are tricked into touching the magic rings which transport them to the Other Place. By even Uncle Andrew doesn't realise the wonders that await them, for here is the gateway to the Land of Narnia and the beginning of many wonderful adventures there...</blockquote><b><i>"What you see and what you hear depends a great deal on where you are standing. It also depends on what sort of person you are."</i></b><div><br /></div><div>I have been such a huge fan of <i>The Chronicles of Narnia</i> since I was a child. I remember my Mum reading these to me when I was young and I just fell in love with this magical world. After hearing about Netflix planning a <i>Narnia</i> series and actually doing them in chronological order this time I thought this was the perfect time for me to re-read the series. I haven't read the entire series so now is the perfect time.<div><br /></div><div><i>The Magician's Nephew</i> is set years before the events of the most beloved and well-known book in this series, <i>The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe</i>. It follows a young Digory whose uncle is a self proclaimed magician. Using Digory and his friend Polly to test his magic he sends them into the Other Place. Somewhere that is a gateway for lots of different world.</div><div><br /></div><div>I really enjoyed<i> The Magician's Nephew</i>. It isn't the most fascinating and fast-paced book of the series but I love that we get to see how everything in Narnia began. In the beginning of this book Narnia wasn't really a thing and is was through the actions of Digory and Polly along with a lion named Aslan that brings about the magical world of Narnia. I really enjoyed seeing how everything came together and sets everything up for the novels to come.</div><div><br /></div><div>I really enjoyed reading <i>The Magician's Nephew</i> and I can't wait to continue reading them and finally finishing this series.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>"Narnia, Narnia, Narnia, awake. <blockquote><b>From Goodreads:</b><div style="text-align: left;">Good and evil will finally clash, but which side is which?</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Hope has struggled with who and what she is, and how that defines her. And at what cost?</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">It’s time to find out.</div></blockquote><div><br /></div><div>The <i>Balance</i> series has been a big love of mine since the first book released years ago. I fell head over heels in love with Vivian and Caleb and then again with Hope and Cillian. I can't tell you just how excited I have been for this book. It's the final book in Hope and Cillian's story and I couldn't wait to see how it all wraps up for them.... fear not, it's not the end of the series, just for the perspectives of Hope and Cillian. I had such high expectations for this book and once again Janelle smashed it out of the park. This was even bigger and better than I ever could have wanted.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>The Dark Queen</i> picked up right where <i>Finding the Light </i>left off. I was on the edge of my seat right from the start and I couldn't put it down. Janelle has such an addictive writing style, once I start her books I can't put them down. She grabs you right from the start and you can't stop reading until you've devoured the entire book. That's exactly what I did. I was flipping the pages as fast as I could, dying to find out what was going to happen to my beloved characters next.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>The Dark Queen</i> is filled to the brim with romance, action and gobsmacking twists and turns. Usually I can guess a lot of twists and turns that are going to happen before they happen in books but in this one I couldn't believe what I was reading. I was completely taken aback by what was happening. It just made me love this book all the time. It was absolute perfection!</div><div><br /></div><div>I can't even describe how much I absolutely adore Hope and Cillian as main characters. They are just so brilliant and flawed and I have loved following them on their journey. I am so happy to see their happy ending but at the same time I am completely heartbroken that they won't be our main characters from this point. I love their perspectives so much. Having said that though, I already suspect who the next couple is going to be and I can't wait to read their story.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>The Dark Queen</i> was everything I could have wanted and more. It was utter perfection and I can't praise it enough. If you haven't read this series yet then I highly recommend that you do. It is heart-stoppingly exciting with swoon worthy romance, and a dash of danger. If you're a lover of paranormal romance I highly recommend you pick this one up. You won't be disappointed.</div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>"Not everyone needs to live their lives in excess and indecency in order to be considered worthwhile."</i></b></div><div><b><i><br /></i></b></div><div><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvmjvByLkqEOOzlrA6bKj_OkddAxBGDgdX3Jm6Br9xmbg7TRkqKFpISo_dVfrAWns17wG5mPd8xWK2SlmpxODRvyMh3CiHZeQH46C4yoA9v87lrPK5H7lqyAt6b-DSQ2CDA_jfTeNLdNbE/s250/5-star.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="95" data-original-width="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvmjvByLkqEOOzlrA6bKj_OkddAxBGDgdX3Jm6Br9xmbg7TRkqKFpISo_dVfrAWns17wG5mPd8xWK2SlmpxODRvyMh3CiHZeQH46C4yoA9v87lrPK5H7lqyAt6b-DSQ2CDA_jfTeNLdNbE/" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiZcsS0hRwZmuHLdcrh3bC1Ln1rVB-K6q-MeKDR1GMOL7JYcu4hCJbGLNnwSlLgtdajcov3ncnTIQ63yco4HffAWgraWinWMZdW99drPMg0gqwNy2N1jCDyH3EfHquEdnF4vXi6aP03enI/s300/kayleigh.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="100" data-original-width="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiZcsS0hRwZmuHLdcrh3bC1Ln1rVB-K6q-MeKDR1GMOL7JYcu4hCJbGLNnwSlLgtdajcov3ncnTIQ63yco4HffAWgraWinWMZdW99drPMg0gqwNy2N1jCDyH3EfHquEdnF4vXi6aP03enI/" /></a></div><i><br /></i></b></div>Kayleigh @ K-Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00561443652211354021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5360124785485400309.post-50055764761281781272020-06-20T10:30:00.001+01:002020-06-20T10:30:00.173+01:00Review: Requiem (Delirium #3)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg90RKVbA8RQXB3V06kS6WOxFNgdtBYm5BXcMb93N8uKB319lDoydoEZGqq1DMX-XIaxP_PLTMANPy6OUXntxUzlORFab-qwVLozGFY1blf6L6ipRYFAwbY20uEtqB2e_bLDVmwUv7WXI3N/" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="475" data-original-width="314" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg90RKVbA8RQXB3V06kS6WOxFNgdtBYm5BXcMb93N8uKB319lDoydoEZGqq1DMX-XIaxP_PLTMANPy6OUXntxUzlORFab-qwVLozGFY1blf6L6ipRYFAwbY20uEtqB2e_bLDVmwUv7WXI3N/s320/requiem.jpg" /></a></div><b><i>Requiem (Delirium #3)</i></b><div><b><i>Lauren Oliver</i></b></div><div><b><i><br /></i></b></div><div><b>Published By:</b> Harper Teen</div><div><b>Publication Date:</b> March 6, 2013</div><div><b>Date Read:</b> May 21, 2020</div><div><b>Genre:</b> YA - Dystopia</div><div><b>Source:</b> Bought</div><div><b>Format:</b> Hardback</div><div><b>Pages:</b> 391</div>

The nascent rebellion that was underway in Pandemonium has ignited into an all-out revolution in Requiem, and Lena is at the centre of the fight. This has been such a long time coming and I am so glad that I finally caught up and finished this series. I don't really know how I feel right now about this book. I absolutely fell in love with <i>Delirium</i> back in 2011 and then I enjoyed <i>Pandemonium</i> enough.... I don't even know what to think about <i>Requiem</i>. I enjoyed the book and it definitely isn't as bad as some people make it out to be.... however.... what the heck was that ending?!?!</div><div><br /></div><div>Honestly, I feel quite disheartened and disappointed with this one. I actually have so much love for this storyline and these characters and I have really enjoyed the entire series but I just feel like... it isn't finished. And not in a good, oh there might be a spin off, way but in a I turned the page and felt like there was some of the book missing kind of way. I feel like the book ended in the middle of a scene... I don't even know if most of the characters are alive or not. I'm all for an open ending but seriously.... there was no conclusion.... for any of the characters. It kind of hinted at a resolution of the love triangle but even then it was just a hint... nothing set in stone.</div><div><br /></div><div>I am so very disappointed in the ending of <i>Requiem</i>. I love that it gave that hope for the future that is usually there in a dystopia novel but I just don't really feel like the series is finished. I really wish there was more of a resolution. To me this is the book equivalent of the TV show Angel's ending... as in there is no ending really. I wanted more. </div><div><br /></div><div>I still enjoyed <i>Requiem</i>. It really is a great storyline and I am completely and utterly in love with Lauren Oliver's writing. It's so great and I will definitely be picking up her other books. I am so glad I finally finished the series but I really wish there had been a better ending. If you like set in stone endings then this one really isn't for you.</div><div><br /></div><div> <b><i>"We wanted the freedom to love. We wanted the freedom to choose. When she and the baby are taken in by a band of rebels, Raven finds herself an outsider within a tight-knit group. The only other newcomer is an untrustworthy boy known as the Thief until he finally earns himself a new name: Tack.</div><div><br /></div><div>Now she and Tack are inseparable, committed to each other, the fledgling rebellion, and a future together. Whatever the original mission may have been, Raven abides by a conviction that she believes to her core: You always return for the people you love.</div><div><br /></div><div>By turns surprising, revelatory, and poignant, Raven’s story enriches the Delirium world and resonates with a voice that is as vulnerable as it is strong.</div></blockquote><div><br /></div><div><b>Note: Spoilers from Pandemonium, the second book in the Delirium series present in this review. Read on at your own risk if you haven't yet read Pandemonium.</b></div><div><br /></div><div>I wasn't the biggest fan of Raven when we first met her in <i>Pandemonium</i>. I thought she was super harsh and a bit nuts. As we went through <i>Pandemonium</i> I started to like her and then was super angry at her (if you've read this series you'll know why!) and then back to liking her again. Because of this I was quite excited to read this novella and get to see things from her perspective a bit more.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>Raven</i> is essentially a back story of Raven as we see what she was like before we meet her in <i>Pandemonium</i> and how she got to that point. This novella made me love Raven so much. There's so much more to her that we never got to see. There's reasons behind why she is so harsh; really she's quire a softie at heart. Reading this novella made Blue's death in <i>Pandemonium</i> so much more heartbreaking... and it was already heartbreaking enough.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>Raven</i> was such an enjoyable novella and I'm really looking forward to seeing how her story ends in <i>Requiem</i>.</div><div><br /></div><div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4yfX8iMveCmevBn9WA-8MQZBqwGHB6HdFWObMS0QtsWNNAE1TWgDYedkzB_Fd_y0nEjN01PjXrSsepJ1fL5c9xMq7DZMgvXcKaF6D0v3Sluhq8qVONLU8r6-MMAAhKyqVQ2BhcCBhosJK/s250/3star.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="105" data-original-width="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4yfX8iMveCmevBn9WA-8MQZBqwGHB6HdFWObMS0QtsWNNAE1TWgDYedkzB_Fd_y0nEjN01PjXrSsepJ1fL5c9xMq7DZMgvXcKaF6D0v3Sluhq8qVONLU8r6-MMAAhKyqVQ2BhcCBhosJK/" /></a></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJcKTgsUZ6SvK_P-8XbySvf6dyX_NmH_iDDZwNaUscrtxxDKLETQNpLeTEFNDWwZsRoLHmXllqqANCs9LuiCVyJ2KrTsum6eMMGlwShdJ2oE2qaC9zaRfiYR4o54O6dS4n3LZekrCTvrMc/s300/kayleigh.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="100" data-original-width="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJcKTgsUZ6SvK_P-8XbySvf6dyX_NmH_iDDZwNaUscrtxxDKLETQNpLeTEFNDWwZsRoLHmXllqqANCs9LuiCVyJ2KrTsum6eMMGlwShdJ2oE2qaC9zaRfiYR4o54O6dS4n3LZekrCTvrMc/" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Kayleigh @ K-Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00561443652211354021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5360124785485400309.post-2234571132637832652020-06-13T10:30:00.000+01:002020-06-13T10:30:03.011+01:00Review: Pandemonium (Delirium #2)<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisg42-ks6zeLXaeZRi01N2Ja2QjtUynkyLNAGQXzneULw2d6vgZYpByqaJ-2xT0Y9mLbxBGG467R8pFhqhdhEryAKykL7sywSEkuD95ZJwd7x2EjxnXnvkU_RTgjDMWC9goK0Q-4LTOccw/" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="475" data-original-width="314" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisg42-ks6zeLXaeZRi01N2Ja2QjtUynkyLNAGQXzneULw2d6vgZYpByqaJ-2xT0Y9mLbxBGG467R8pFhqhdhEryAKykL7sywSEkuD95ZJwd7x2EjxnXnvkU_RTgjDMWC9goK0Q-4LTOccw/s320/pandemonium.jpg" /></a></div><b><i>Pandemonium (Delirium #2)</i></b><div><b><i>Lauren Oliver</i></b></div><div><b><i><br /></i></b></div><div><b>Published By:</b> Harper Teen</div><div><b>Publication Date:</b> February 28, 2012</div><div><b>Date Read:</b> May 19, 2020</div><div><b>Genre:</b> YA - Dystopia</div><div><b>Source:</b> Bought</div><div><b>Format:</b> Hardback</div><div><b>Pages:</b> 375</div>

But the old Lena is dead too. I buried her. I left her beyond a fence, behind a wall of smoke and flame. In this electrifying follow-up to her acclaimed New York Times bestseller Delirium, Lauren Oliver sets Lena on a dangerous course that hurtles through the unregulated Wilds and into the heart of a growing resistance movement. This riveting, brilliant novel crackles with the fire of fierce defiance, forbidden romance, and the sparks of a revolution about to ignite.</div></blockquote><div><br /></div><div><b><i>"The flip side of freedom is this: When you're completely free, you're also completely on your own."</i></b></div><div><br /></div><div><i>Pandemonium</i> was a great sequel to <i>Delirium</i>. I had heard a lot of mixed things about this one and that is probably one of the reasons it took me so long to pick this one up. I didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as some people made it out to be. It's very different to <i>Delirium</i> and I felt it had a different vibe than the first book did and maybe that's why people didn't like it. I personally really enjoyed this one.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>Pandemonium</i> picks up right where <i>Delirium</i> left off, with Lena alone trying to make it in the Wilds after Alex was captured and presumably killed at the end of book 1. One thing I really enjoyed about this one was that we got a whole host of new characters in this book. I really enjoyed getting to know these new characters who were on the side of fighting for love. They aren't perfect characters and they really straddle the line between good guy and bad guy. They are good because they want people to be free and have the freedom to love... but they're also willing to do some really bad stuff for their cause. I personally loved these morally grey characters and I was so taken away on their journey. </div><div><br /></div><div>One thing I loved about this book was the amount of character growth that Lena goes through in this book. She is definitely not the same girl that we saw in <i>Delirium</i>. Being thrown into the Wilds by herself really changed her and she is much tougher and stronger for it. Everything she went through in this book should have made her crumble but instead she persevered and grew stronger throughout it. I really loved the introduction of Raven in <i>Pandemonium</i> as well. She is as tough as they get and she definitely gives Lena the tough-love approach. I really enjoyed seeing her in this one and I can't wait to see more from her in the next book.</div><div><br /></div><div>I really missed Alex in this book. He is absent for pretty much the entire book and it killed me seeing Lena mourning for him and believing he is dead. I'm not totally crazy about the love triangle that I can see developing but I am looking forward to seeing how it all ends in the third and final book. I read it back in 2012 when I was on a major dystopia obsession and I remember loving this set up of what if love was a bad thing and people getting the cure from love. I also remember the ending absolutely killing me. I was left reeling and I couldn't wait for the next book. Fast forward 8 years and I still hadn't read the rest of this series. I remember deciding to wait until the final book released before I continued and then I just saw so many mixed things I put it off. Well as part of my 2020 Series Catch Up Challenge I finally decided to pick this series back up and I thought before diving into <i>Pandemonium</i>, I would pick up this novella first.</div><div><br /></div><div>I really enjoyed <i>Alex</i>. It's a super short novella that centres on what happened after Alex was captured and presumed dead. Honestly it was quite difficult to read in places because of the horrors that Alex went through. It was so good to see that he was alive but man, my heart broke for him for all this shit that he was going through. </div><div><br /></div><div>I'm definitely looking forward to continuing this series. I think <i>Alex</i> is definitely worth the read, especially if you have had a large break between reading book 1 and continuing. It reintroduced me into the world and the story and it just cemented my love for Alex. I can't wait to dive into <i>Pandemonium</i>.</div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>"And how she looked at me like I could save her from everything bad in the world. Annwn is the dream mirror of our world, a place where Dreamers walk in their slumber, their dreams playing out all around them. An enchanted, mysterious place that feeds our own world - as without dreams, without a place where our imaginations and minds can be nourished, what kind of humans would we be?</div><div><br /></div><div>But Annwn is a place as full of dangers as it is wonders: it is a place where dreams can kill you. Annwn and its Dreamers are protected by an ancient order known as the Knights - and when Fern's hated twin Ollie is chosen to join their ranks, Fern will have to do whatever she can to prove she is one of them too.</div><div><br /></div><div>But the world Fern discovers in Annwn, in this dream mirror of her London, is a fragile one, threatened by vicious nightmares. Nightmares that are harder and harder for the Knights to defeat. Something dark is jeopardising the peace and stability of Annwn, something that must be rooted out at all costs. And gradually, Fern realises that the danger lurking inside our sleep is more insidious and terrifying than any nightmare. Because if you can influence someone's dreams, you can control their thoughts ...</div></blockquote><div><br /></div><div><i>Midnight's Twins</i> is a book I hadn't heard a lot about but when I was emailed and asked if I wanted to take part in the blog tour and review this book I took one look at that beautiful cover and jumped at the chance. I was so pleasantly surprised by <i>Midnight's Twins</i>, I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced and full of magic, intrigue and mystery. It's a fantastic fantasy debut and I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>Midnight's Twins</i> follows the story of Fern and Ollie. Twins who have a feud going on. They haven't spoken for years and Ollie did something unforgivable to Fern and she's having a hard time moving past it. Suddenly they are both thrown into the mystical dream world of Annwyn. It's their job to protect people from their nightmares, but is there more going on that is bigger than their feud? In a bid to find out what truly happened to their mother years ago and to protect those in Annwyn now, they have to try and work together... or they may not survive the journey. </div><div><br /></div><div><i>Midnight's Twins</i> has so many different elements that I absolutely love to see in a book. It's set in a dreamland where knights protect the dreamers and I was completely sold as soon as this happened. I love learning about new worlds and that is why fantasy is my favourite genre. Add to that the twist of some well-known mythology and even some King Arthur legends, I was in love. I absolutely love anything mythological and so this book was absolutely perfect for me.</div><div><br /></div><div>Right from the start, I really enjoyed the writing style of this book. It was so lyrical and lovely to read. I did struggle a little with some of the pronunciation of some of the new world names and such, so I would have loved if there was a little pronunciation guide so I would know if I was pronouncing things correctly. This book was aimed a little younger than I usually read but that didn't stop my enjoyment of it whatsoever. I did kind of miss a romance element but I am holding out hope that that might come into the series a little later on. <i>Midnight's Twins </i>really focused on the familial connection between the twins and that was so lovely to see that develop throughout the book.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>Midnight's Twins</i> was brilliant and such an enjoyable read. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of fantasy books that are action-packed and filled with some mystery and intrigue. I really enjoyed every moment of this book and I can't wait to get my hands on the second book and see what is going to happen with these characters and this magical and mystical world.</div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>"Too much fear turns us to stone, but not enough and we are no longer human."</i></b></div><div><b><i><br /></i></b></div><div><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvHmGPVisMZADl3mU8Pv8_qW8hj5bSjj8vzuF1QvC5jwpRgnTKJV24t8_CnB63u31XzzmKehmsy28J0H51NHBjrUtgw-AjW3wq4YN-4VsIDDwqOhIQp1wyS1ngtsyVomN08JHystxjrC9-/s250/4star.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="103" data-original-width="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvHmGPVisMZADl3mU8Pv8_qW8hj5bSjj8vzuF1QvC5jwpRgnTKJV24t8_CnB63u31XzzmKehmsy28J0H51NHBjrUtgw-AjW3wq4YN-4VsIDDwqOhIQp1wyS1ngtsyVomN08JHystxjrC9-/" /></a></div><i><br /></i></b></div><div><b>Buy The Book:</b></div><div><a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Midnights-Twins-Holly-Race/dp/1471409163/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=midnights+twins&qid=1591553372&sr=8-1" target="_blank">Amazon</a></div><div><a href="https://www.bookdepository.com/Midnights-Twins-Holly-Race/9781471409165?ref=grid-view&qid=1591553406488&sr=1-1" target="_blank">The Book Depository</a></div><div><a href="https://www.waterstones.com/book/midnights-twins/holly-race/9781471409165" target="_blank">Waterstones</a></div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: right;"><b>About The Author:</b></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHSAIvSV-mlLy6wdPrw_yC7Hit2AChfaxph0dQ7h67S63owaZ-ocOkpFkJhOtU91iT6j7lf_6DX5wdodEnq-7blQ7XR3twWuHjVl_aTvl3lDqs7-FzF23S0HFn14aNDodRp9RTgWKI4NSQ/s6000/Holly+Race+-+Credit+Alex+Beckett.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="6000" data-original-width="4000" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHSAIvSV-mlLy6wdPrw_yC7Hit2AChfaxph0dQ7h67S63owaZ-ocOkpFkJhOtU91iT6j7lf_6DX5wdodEnq-7blQ7XR3twWuHjVl_aTvl3lDqs7-FzF23S0HFn14aNDodRp9RTgWKI4NSQ/w133-h200/Holly+Race+-+Credit+Alex+Beckett.jpg" width="133" /></a></div><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-size: 11pt; margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt; text-align: right;"><font face="trebuchet">Holly Race works as a development executive in the film and TV industry, most recently with Aardman Animations. From the bestselling co-authors of the Illuminae Files comes the second book in the epic series about a squad of misfits, losers, and discipline cases who just might be the galaxy’s best hope for survival.
</b></div><div><br /></div><div>First, the bad news: an ancient evil—you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal—is about to be unleashed. The good news? Two centuries ago, the colony ship vanished, leaving Auri as its sole survivor. Now, its black box might be what saves them. If you haven't started this series yet read on at your own risk!</u></b></div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>"Those who truly know us see the whole, never just a part."</i></b></div><div><br /></div><div><i>Aurora Burning</i> was without a doubt my most anticipated release of 2020. This time last year I hadn't actually read anything by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff and now I am completely and utterly obsessed with their work. I can't actually put into words my love for this series and I was so excited to finally get my hands on book 2.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>Aurora Burning</i> was absolute perfection. Right from the very first page I was completely taken away into the dangerous and exciting space-led world of Squad 312. It picks up where <i>Aurora Rising</i> left off, with the squad one man down and trying their hardest to move on and function without dear old Cat. <i>Aurora Burning </i>is fast paced and action packed and has twists and turns around every corner. Some of them I guessed before they happened but that didn't stop my excitement when they happened. Instead of being all like 'omg what?' I just screamed out loud 'I KNEW IT!!'. Whoever was around me when I got to those parts of the book just looked at me like I was a lunatic. I loved every single second of it.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>Aurora Burning</i> has some of the best characters I have ever read. I honestly love the characterisations in the book so much. We even have some new characters introduced in this book including Kal's long-lost sister who is out to get him and the squad. Although Saidi is definitely painted as the villain in this book I absolutely loved her. She's bad-ass and she fights for what she believes in. You definitely get to see a few different sides to her as the book goes on and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of her in book three. I definitely think there is more to her that meets the eye and that she isn't truly a villain. After all, nobody is 100% good or bad are they?</div><div><br /></div><div>In terms of the Squad, Kal is 100% my favourite character in this entire series. I love him so much and part of this book completely broke my heart for him. He goes through some tough times throughout this book and I just wanted to reach into the book and hug him.... and throttle him all at the same time. The biggest surprise for me in this one was my utter love of Zila. In book 1 I liked Zila as I liked all of the squad but we see a lot more about Zila in this one and why she is the way that she is and I absolutely adore her. I can't wait to see more of her and see how everything pans out in the next book.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>Aurora Burning</i> was such an emotional book. Talk about cliffhangers. I think this is one of the worst cliffhanger endings I have ever read. I literally sobbed my heart out in the last few chapters. Amie and Jay successfully took my heart full of love for these characters and absolutely destroyed it into a million pieces. I am still left reeling weeks after finishing this book and I am still not okay! I need the next book like right now!! I need to know what's going to happen to my beloved Kal... and to Aurora and Zila and the rest of the squad. If you're a lover of sci-fi I highly, highly recommend this series and if you don't.... I still recommend this series because it's just utter perfection. I'm just going to go and rock in a corner for a year until book 3 releases now. </div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>"Love is what drives us to great deeds and greater sacrifices. <b>From Goodreads:</b><br />
For weeks, seventeen-year-old Mariko pretended to be a boy to infiltrate the notorious Black Clan and bring her would-be murderer to justice. She didn't expect to find a place for herself among the group of fighters—a life of usefulness—and she certainly didn't expect to fall in love. Now she heads to the imperial castle to resume a life she never wanted to save the boy she loves.<br />
<br />
Ōkami has been captured, and his execution is a certainty. Mariko will do what she must to ensure his survival—even marry the sovereign's brother, saying goodbye to a life with Ōkami forever.<br />
<br />
As Mariko settles into her days at court—making both friends and enemies—and attempting Ōkami's rescue at night, the secrets of the royal court begin to unravel as competing agendas collide. One arrow sets into motion a series of deadly events even the most powerful magic cannot contain. Mariko and Ōkami risk everything to right past wrongs and restore the honor of a kingdom thrown into chaos by a sudden war, hoping against hope that when the dust settles, they will find a way to be together.<br />
<br />
Set against the backdrop of feudal Japan, Smoke in the Sun is the breathless, romantic, not-to-be-missed fiery conclusion to a spell-binding adventure.</blockquote>
<br /><b><i>"We must distance ourselves from comparison. That is the only way to be truly free."</i></b><br /><div><br /></div><div><i>Smoke in the Sun</i> was one of my most anticipated reads of 2018. I remember reading <i>Flame in the Mist</i> back in 2017 when it first released and I fell head over heels in love with it. It was the first Renee Ahdieh book I read and it made me into a huge fan of hers. I put this one off for so long because I couldn't really remember the ins and outs of the events and the characters by the time this one released. Finally, after re-reading <i>Flame in the Mist </i>I finally picked this one up. I was so excited to finally read it and see how this duology ended. I really wish I could say that I loved it as much as the first book... but honestly, I'm left feeling a little... deflated and disappointed.<div><br /></div><div><i>Smoke in the Sun</i> picks up where <i>Flame in the Mist</i> left off with Okami captured and Mariko off to the city to help him. It was the perfect set up for this book to be fast paced and action packed but unfortunately that just didn't happen. The pacing of this story slowed down so much. I was bored through the vast majority of <i>Smoke in the Sun</i>. I really can't fault Renee's writing style, it was just as beautiful as always... my issue was nothing was really happening. Plot wise, nothing really happened in the first 250 pages. Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that I loved the first book so much, I probably would have DNF'd this one.</div><div><br /></div><div>I still love the world and the characters that are in this series and I am so glad that I persevered and got to see the ending for Mariko and Okami. Pretty much everything was rammed into the last 100 pages. I have such mixed feelings because I felt like the book really dragged but then at the same time I felt like the ending was really rushed and I needed a bit more. I don't really feel like the ending wrapped up everyone's story. I'm still left with so many questions about what happened to them next and that makes me feel really sad.</div><div><br /></div><div>I am so upset that I didn't love this one as Renee is one of my all time favourite authors and I loved the first book so much. Unfortunately it just didn't live up to my expectations and a part of me think this would have been so much better if it'd have stuck as a standalone and added the final 100 pages on to the end of <i>Flame in the Mist</i>. As sad as I am about being disappointed by this one Renee is still cemented as one of my favourite authors and I can't wait to read whatever she releases next.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>"I would rather die for love than stand by and watch my love perish."</i></b></div><div><b><i><br /></i></b></div><div><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8D1FSUMKupJ4AdIrRX_o7KUb21cUlcYtIwqKnV7VMAzjfvZJO7rYt-CgmX09aDsGUbez-OalcavthFzR58YIVlOcEuI2I6WbJ-aowRHR2GB58AHOaZPhZ2fqYmvufEdls2S7TYFAzwEf2/" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="95" data-original-width="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8D1FSUMKupJ4AdIrRX_o7KUb21cUlcYtIwqKnV7VMAzjfvZJO7rYt-CgmX09aDsGUbez-OalcavthFzR58YIVlOcEuI2I6WbJ-aowRHR2GB58AHOaZPhZ2fqYmvufEdls2S7TYFAzwEf2/" /></a></div><i><br /></i></b></div><div><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZpe8Pp-imGa_pDEYCPD0ve-ecHdWhghT72VokOt6O3EpLah2ApOLhYuXlZhh6iq5KI27ThdWA9zroQ_guSuvwpfdicYH_co_3XnBeZ1pzUOFoKLGvPKrCeuve84tUKJ1YzAGHzAGzzXz_/" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="100" data-original-width="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZpe8Pp-imGa_pDEYCPD0ve-ecHdWhghT72VokOt6O3EpLah2ApOLhYuXlZhh6iq5KI27ThdWA9zroQ_guSuvwpfdicYH_co_3XnBeZ1pzUOFoKLGvPKrCeuve84tUKJ1YzAGHzAGzzXz_/" /></a></div><i><br /></i></b></div>Kayleigh @ K-Bookshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00561443652211354021noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5360124785485400309.post-56257415180794709752020-06-02T10:46:00.002+01:002020-06-02T10:46:40.907+01:00Wrap Up: May 2020<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeiLx7_8QypLyXybkdwrOnh_-STHIF0JUaCRhcJmG6M4hUlYg92nM_apze7vF-KAfSAAn7tO14SjEgzM1rX6rvqKQDSpuHqWRzPJ1Eh6ImBglY09AXkL6vHrn1BCwYVzONLkOvbjp8GOwG/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="361" data-original-width="1000" height="145" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeiLx7_8QypLyXybkdwrOnh_-STHIF0JUaCRhcJmG6M4hUlYg92nM_apze7vF-KAfSAAn7tO14SjEgzM1rX6rvqKQDSpuHqWRzPJ1Eh6ImBglY09AXkL6vHrn1BCwYVzONLkOvbjp8GOwG/w400-h145/May.png" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Hey Guys,<br />Can you believe it's June already? I can't get you out."</i></b></div><div><br /></div><div>There are no words to explain just how excited I was to get my hands on this book. I have been such a huge fan of Jennifer L Armentrout for almost a decade and I am still just as obsessed with her books now as I was when I first discovered them. <i>Storm and Fury</i>, the first book in the <i>Harbinger</i> series is possibly my favourite of all of her books and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next in this series. There is nothing I can really say in this review that will do justice to this amazing book. It was absolutely epic!</div><div><br /></div><div>Zayne and Trinity are back and while trying to figure out who the Harbinger is they are also fighting their growing feelings for one another. Now that Zayne is Trinity's protector you have the whole forbidden love aspect coming in to this book and I loved every single second of it. If there is one trope I can't resist in books it's forbidden love. It did, in my opinion, push this book to be even better than <i>Storm and Fury</i>. It gives you the drama of will they-won't they along with the heart melting romance I have come to expect for Jen's books. I just loved every single moment of it.</div><div><br /></div><div>From the very first page I couldn't put <i>Rage and Ruin</i> down. I was racing through the pages so fast because I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen. It was definitely a desperation to see what was going to happen. I fell head over heels in love with Zayne and Trinity all over again and the more I read the more I just wanted to reach into the book and bang their heads together and push them together.</div><div><br /></div><div>Anyone who has known me for a while will know I always loved Zayne the most, even in the <i>Dark Elements</i> series. I was always a bit 'meh' about Roth. Like I knew he was perfect for Layla and I liked him well enough but he has never been one of my favourite characters. Honestly, I love Roth more in <i>Rage and Ruin</i> than I ever loved him in his own series. He is absolutely hilarious all the way through this book. He is most definitely the comic relief in this very emotionally charged book. For all you Roth fans out there... you have some awesome moments to look forward to in this one. </div><div><br /></div><div><i>Rage and Ruin</i> is most definitely the best, and most heartbreakingly emotional book I have read so far this year. <i>Rage and Ruin</i> completely and utterly broke me. At one point I was crying so hard I had to stop reading as I couldn't see the words. For me, it is always a sign of a fantastic book if it can evoke that strong of an emotional response from me. I loved every single second of it and I couldn't ask for more. I am now left reeling dying for the third and final book is this heartstoppingly perfect series. If you haven't read this one yet I highly recommend it. It was beautiful, perfect and stunning. A must read.</div><div><br /></div><div><b><i>"I knew there was a risk for us - and there is an us. <b>In a world where the flightless are ruled by those who can fly...</b><br />
<br />
When her father dies just before her birthday, seventeen-year-old Aderyn inherits the role of Protector of Atratys, a dominion in a kingdom where nobles are able to transform at will into the bird that represents their family bloodline. Aderyn's ancestral bird is a swan. But she has not transformed for years, not since witnessing the death of her mother - ripped apart by hawks that have supposedly been extinct since the long-ago War of the Raptors. <br />
<br />
With the benevolent shelter of her mother and her father now lost, Aderyn is at the mercy of her brutal uncle, the King, and his royal court. Driven by revenge and love, she must venture into the malevolent heart of the Citadel in order to seek the truth about the attack that so nearly destroyed her, to fight for the only home she has ever known and for the land she has vowed to protect.<br />
<br />
<b>Written in rich detail and evocative language, this is the start of an irresistible, soaring duology about courage, broken loyalties and fighting for your place in the world.</b></blockquote>
<br />
<i>A Throne of Swans</i> was a book that I hadn't heard much about before YALC last year. I've been aware of Katherine and Elizabeth Corr as a writing duo and have heard amazing things about their previous series <i>The Witch's Kiss</i>. I haven't personally read them so <i>A Throne of Swans</i> was my first dip into their writing. I enjoyed <i>A Throne of Swans</i> though I do feel like it is aimed at very young YA so it was pitched at a younger age than I normally read.<br />
<br />
<i>A Throne of Swans</i> is a YA Fantasy novel inspired by <i>Swan Lake</i>. I quite liked this <i>Swan Lake</i> twist and I thought the premise of this book was great. I'm a big lover of Fantasy novels and I've never read one that has shapeshifting within it's lore like this one. I really enjoyed that element of it. This is by no means one of my favourite Fantasy novels. Like I mentioned above, it's pitched very young for me and that hindered my enjoyment of it slightly but I do think this is a fantastic novel for a younger audience.<br />
<br />
I enjoyed <i>A Throne of Swans</i> and I will definitely pick up the second book in this duology to see what is going to happen next. I would definitely recommend this book if it's your first step into fantasy and it would be a great introduction into the genre.<br />

<b>From Goodreads:</b><br />
<b>Eve is the last girl on earth.</b><br />
<br />
For the last sixteen years, Eve has been a prisoner. Guarded by the Mothers. Trapped by her fate. Watched by the world.<br />
<br />
Until she took her chance, and escaped.<br />
<br />
Eve finally has the freedom she has wanted for so long, and with Bram she has the love. But both come at a price. In this dangerous new world beyond the Tower, the regime are only ever one step behind. And together with the desperate rebel group fighting against them, Eve has found herself in more danger than she ever could have imagined.<br />
<br />
<b>With everything stacked against them, can Eve and Bram survive?</b></blockquote>
<br />
<b><i>"Maybe I'm not here to save us from the future but from the present. Perhaps coming here, reclaiming my body and my worth, is where this all begins."</i></b><br />
<br />
I read <i>Eve of Man</i> back in 2018 when it first released and I fell head over heels in love with this storyline and the characters. I couldn't wait for the next book and fast forward two years and it's finally here. I completely devoured this book within a day and was then left wishing I had taken my time with it because now I have to wait for the next book.<br />
<br />
<i>The Eve Illusion</i> was in a word, perfection. Right from the start I was hooked back into this post-apocalyptic world and I could not put it down. I absolutely love that this book is split point of view and I really liked that we had another perspective in addition to Bram and Eve. As Bram and Eve are together for the majority of the book, we were introduced to another perspective of someone else back in the tower which worked perfectly as we still got to see what was going on there following Eve's departure. It really gave the story that much more depth being able to see what was going on there and with the rebel group at the same time.<br />
<br />
Tom and Giovanna writing together is just brilliant. I haven't yet read any of their individual novels but if this is anything to go by I'm sure they are fantastic. I have well and truly become a fan of these two and I can't wait to get my hands on their others works as well. I was just completely taken by their writing style and I found it incredibly difficult to put this book down. I couldn't get through the pages fast enough. I loved every single moment of this book.<br />
<br />
<i>The Eve Illusion</i> tackles such real issues and makes you really think and question what it is to be human and what freedom actually is. Although this book is a dystopia novel the issues surrounding the characters is something that people deal with every day and it's one of the reasons I love this series so much. It tackles these real life problems in a futuristic world. It's just brilliant and fantastic. I loved <i>The Eve Illusion</i> and I cannot wait to get my hands on book three. I have no doubt it's going to be a stunning and explosive conclusion to this fantastic series.<br />
<br />
<b><i>"That's the thing about disasters - war, disease, the climate shift: they bring about the fastest acceleration in technological developments. You've just got to survive long enough to benefit from it."</i></b><br />

Silent wars leave the most carnage. The wars that are never declared, but are carried out in dark alleys with masks and hidden knives. Wars where color power alters the natural rhythm of 17th century London. And when the king calls for peace, no one listens until he finally calls for death.<br />
<br />
But what if death finds him first?<br />
<br />
Keepers think the Igniters caused the plague. Igniters think the Keepers did. But all Thomas knows is that the Stone Plague infecting his eye is spreading. And if he doesn’t do something soon, he’ll be a lifeless statue. So when his Keeper father, Guy Fawkes, invites him to join the Gunpowder Plot—claiming it will put an end to the plague—Thomas is in.<br />
<br />
The plan: use 36 barrels of gunpowder to blow up the Igniter King.<br />
<br />
The problem: Doing so will destroy the family of the girl Thomas loves. But backing out of the plot will send his father and the other plotters to the gallows. To save one, Thomas will lose the other.<br />
<br />
No matter Thomas’s choice, one thing is clear: once the decision is made and the color masks have been put on, there’s no turning back.</blockquote>

<b><i>"Standing for my beliefs isn't always the same as standing for truth."</i></b><br />
<br />
<i>Fawkes</i> is a book that has been sat on my shelf for about a year. I came across it at YALC a few years ago and I just fell in love with the cover so I just had to have it. I finally picked it up as part of my retellings month and oh my god... I absolutely loved this book. I have to say that <i>Fawkes</i> is one of the biggest surprises of the year for me in the best way possible. I was expecting a retelling of the gunpowder plot and that is what I got, but I got so much more as well. What I wasn't expecting was this superbly crafted fantasy novel set to the historical background of the gunpowder plot.<br />
<br />
I don't know if others would find this book quite as exciting as I did, but with me living in England and us having a celebration each year to remember Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot, I was living for this magical twist to a historical event that is so well known. I loved every single moment of this book. From the development of this key historical event to the beautiful writing to the magical twists and the complex character developments... everything was just absolutely perfect to me. Nadine Brandes... I bow down to you for honing your craft and your storytelling so superbly... I was genuinely blown away by this absolute masterpiece of a novel.<br />
<br />
<i>Fawkes</i> was everything I could have wanted from a book and more. Right from the start I was completely taken away into this magical world of 1500s London. I could not put this book down and I raced through it all to quickly. I will definitely be looking out for Nadine Brandes' other works in the future. She has opened my eyes to a whole new genre that I didn't really know was a thing, and that there was so many books in. I have never really been a lover of historical novels, I find I get quite bored of them... but historical fantasy? Now this is something that I can get behind and feel like I have definitely been missing out on.<br />
<br />
<i>Fawkes</i> was absolute perfection. I loved every single moment of this book and I know this is one book I can read over and over and love it just as much as the first time. I would absolutely recommend this book to everyone. It's absolutely fantastic and challenges so much. Prepare to be whisked away into a historical London filled with magic, intrigue and a dash of romance. It was phenomenal and magical!<br />

<b>From Goodreads:</b><br />
<b>A luminous reimagining of the classic fairy tale Cinderella, told from the perspective of Agnes, the beautiful girl's “evil” stepmother.</b><br />
<br />
<i>Compelling fiction often obscures the humble truth...</i><br />
<br />
We all know the story of Cinderella. Or do we?<br />
<br />
As rumors about the cruel upbringing of beautiful newlywed Princess Cinderella roil the kingdom, her stepmother, Agnes, a woman who knows all too well about hardship, privately records the true story. But what unfolds is not the princess's history. The tale Agnes recounts is her own.<br />
<br />
A peasant born into serfdom, Agnes is separated from her family and forced into servitude as a laundress’s apprentice at Aviceford Manor when she is just ten years old. Alone, friendless, and burdened with a grueling workload, Agnes carves a place for herself in this cold place that is home to Sir Emont Vis-de-Loup, a melancholic and capricious drunkard.<br />
<br />
Using her wits and ingenuity, Agnes eventually escapes and makes her way toward a hopeful future, serving as a housemaid for the powerful Abbess Elfilda. But life once again holds unexpected, sometimes heartbreaking twists that lead Agnes back to Aviceford Manor, where she becomes nursemaid to Ella, Emont's sensitive, otherworldly daughter. Though she cares for Ella, Agnes struggles to love this child, who in time becomes her stepdaughter and, ultimately, the celebrated princess who embodies all our unattainable fantasies.<br />
<br />
Familiar yet fresh, tender as well as bittersweet, the story of Agnes and Ella's relationship reveals that beauty is not always desirable, that love may take on many guises, and that freedom is not always something we can choose.<br />
<br />
Danielle Teller's <i>All the Ever Afters</i> challenges our assumptions and forces us to reevaluate what we think we know. Exploring the hidden complexities that lie beneath classic tales of good and evil, this lyrically told, emotionally evocative, and brilliantly perceptive novel shows us that how we confront adversity reveals a more profound—and ultimately more precious—truth about our lives than the ideal of “happily ever after.”</blockquote>

<b><i>"Being strong does not disqualify you from being beautiful."</i></b><br />
<br />
<i>All The Ever Afters</i> is a retelling that I hadn't heard very much about when I picked it up at last years YALC. It's the tale of <i>Cinderella</i> as you have never seen it before. Told by Agnes, Cinderella's 'Wicked Stepmother' I was immediately intrigued. I am a huge fan of fairytale retellings but when they're told from the same characters perspective I find they can get quite repetitive so to see one told from one of the villains, this book sounded perfect for me... and it was. I really enjoyed every moment of this book.<br />
<br />
<i>All The Ever Afters</i> is a fantastic retelling that I would recommend to any fans of the tale of <i>Cinderella</i>. It's a really thought-provoking read and makes you realise how one-sided all of these tales are. I loved that this book didn't just begin at the time of the <i>Cinderella</i> tale we know but showed Agnes' childhood and how she became her stepmother.<br />
<br />
This is the first book I have read from Danielle Teller and I am a fan. I loved her writing style. It was really addictive. Right from the start I was completely enamoured by this story and her writing and I couldn't put the book down. This book is a really raw and emotional insight into Agnes' life and I was completely in love with her as a character. I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more work of Danielle Teller's in the future.<br />
<br />
<i>All The Ever Afters </i>is a fresh and new take on the <i>Cinderella</i> tale. I was so very impressed with this book and although the beginning is a little bit slow in places, I found myself not minding because I was enjoying the writing style so much. Any Disney/fairytale fans must add this book to their TBR. It was absolutely fantastic!<br />

<b>From Goodreads:</b><br />
Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.<br />
<br />
With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.<br />
<br />
But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle—a shifting maze of magical rooms—enthralls her.<br />
<br />
As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.</blockquote>

<br />
<i>Cruel Beauty</i> has been sat on my shelf unread for such a long time. I remember picking it up not long after it had published and I had been super excited about it but, as is usual for me, I just got distracted by other books. I am such a huge fan of fairytale retellings and this one sounded like the perfect book for me as it is a retelling of my favourite fairytale, <i>Beauty and the Beast</i>. I enjoyed <i>Cruel Beauty</i>... but unfortunately I was left feeling a little bit let down with it.<br />
<br />
<i>Cruel Beauty</i> is a good retelling of <i>Beauty and the Beast</i>. I did enjoy this book and one thing I really liked about it was that there was a hint of mythology included in it which I found really different and unique about a retelling. I don't know what it was about <i>Cruel Beauty</i> but I just didn't love it as much as I thought I would. Maybe I've read too many retellings of this fairytale but I found myself getting quite bored with it. All of the twists and turns in this book I guessed long before they happened and I found myself just wishing the book was over.<br />
<br />
<i>Cruel Beauty </i>is a cute and quick read but unfortunately it just fell a bit flat for me. I did enjoy it and I am glad that I finally read it but I'm probably not going to continue and read the rest of the series.<br />

<b>From Goodreads:</b><br />
Ashton "Frosty" Martin is both elated and despondent when his dead girlfriend Kat comes back as a Witness just like Ali Bell's sister Emma (who has helped Ali and friends throughout the series).<br />
<br />
Kat has a task for Frosty - help a fellow slayer and save him before it is too late. When Frosty gets to the place Kat directed him, he indeed finds a slayer - the disgraced Milla Marks, sister of neighbouring zombie crew leader River Marks - and the girl who betrayed the slayers to Anima Industries and caused Kat's death.<br />
<br />
Milla is the last person on Earth Frosty wants to help or have anything at all to do with. But although she's been banished from her home crew, Milla has learned that Anima has more tricks up their sleeves, and they've found a way to reverse or hinder Ali Bell's new zombie-saving ability<br />
<br />
Anima is still out to find the cure for death and use the zombies to create an immortality serum. And Frosty, Milla, Ali, Cole and all their friends are about to be collateral damage again–unless they can find a way to work together and rebuild trust.<br />
<br />
It won't be easy. But Frosty never liked doing anything the easy way.</blockquote>

<b>**Note: Spoilers for the first three White Rabbit Chronicles books present. Only read on if you have read up to, and including, book 3 Queen of Zombie Hearts**</b></div>
<br />
<i>A Mad Zombie Party</i> has been sat unread on my shelf for years. I absolutely loved the first three books in this series and read them as they released but the end of the third book killed me... I was so heartbroken over the death of Kat that I just never picked this one up. I finally decided to pick it up as part of my 2020 Series Catch Up Challenge. I am so glad I finally picked this one up as I did truly love it.<br />
<br />
Frosty was never one of my favourite characters in the previous three books... he was just kind of there and I liked him okay but I never thought of him really as a key player. That completely changed in <i>A Mad Zombie Party</i>. I absolutely loved Frosty right from the get go and my heart completely broke for him. One of the things that I loved most about this book was that Frosty really went through a journey throughout this book. You see him go from heartbroken unable to go on, to starting to heal and eventually to thriving in his new post-Kat life.<br />
<br />
Right from the start I was completely hooked to this series again. I remember everything from the other books and it reminded me just how much I loved this series. It's an amazing dystopia-eske retelling of <i>Alice in Wonderland</i> and it will always be one of my favourite series. Gena Showalter is such a fantastic author and I can't wait to try some of her other works in the future. She did an incredible job of completely gripping me from the start and I just flew through this book as I just couldn't put it down.<br />
<br />
<i>A Mad Zombie Party</i> was a perfect ending to a fantastic series. I love how it was left slightly open ended so there is the potential that there could be another book in the future. I would absolutely love another book. If you're a lover of anything dystopia or <i>Alice in Wonderland</i> then I highly recommend this series. You won't be disappointed.<br />

<b>From Goodreads:</b><br />
Forced to drop out of an esteemed East Coast college after the sudden death of her parents, Jane Moore takes a nanny job at Thornfield Park, the estate of Nico Rathburn, a world-famous rock star on the brink of a huge comeback. Practical and independent, Jane reluctantly becomes entranced by her magnetic and brooding employer and finds herself in the midst of a forbidden romance.<br />
<br />
But there's a mystery at Thornfield, and Jane's much-envied relationship with Nico is soon tested by an agonizing secret from his past. Torn between her feelings for Nico and his fateful secret, Jane must decide: Does being true to herself mean giving up on true love?<br />
<br />
An irresistible romance interwoven with a darkly engrossing mystery, this contemporary retelling of the beloved classic Jane Eyre promises to enchant a new generation of readers.</blockquote>

<b><i>"Jane, you get me. And I think I get you."</i></b><br />
<br />
<i>Jane</i> is one of those books that has been sat on my shelf for so many years I can't even remember how I heard about this book or where I got it from. I'm a huge fan of retellings so I'm pretty sure I picked this one up years ago before I read <i>Jane Eyre</i>. I think I put this off for so long as I've tried to read <i>Jane Eyre</i> many times and never managed to get all the way through it.<br />
<br />
I finally took the leap and picked up this retelling... and I finished it in a day. I really enjoyed this book. Right from the start I was intrigued by this story and it's characters. I did find the storyline quite predictable which surprised me. Often I do find retellings predictable as I'm familiar with the original story. However, with this one I've never actually got further than 20% of the way through <i>Jane Eyre</i> yet I felt like I had read this storyline before many times. All of the twists and turns in the story I guessed long before they happened.<br />
<br />
I really enjoyed <i>Jane</i>. Although it was predictable the writing style was fantastic and I will definitely be looking out for April Lindner's other works to read in the future. I've definitely been inspired to give<i> Jane Eyre</i> another go and it's definitely on my TBR list now. If you're a fan of <i>Jane Eyre</i> and love a good retelling then I highly recommend picking up <i>Jane</i>. You won't be disappointed.<br />

<b>From Goodreads:</b><br />
Welcome to the Kingdom… where ‘Happily Ever After’ isn’t just a promise, but a rule.<br />
<br />
Glimmering like a jewel behind its gateway, The Kingdom™ is an immersive fantasy theme park where guests soar on virtual dragons, castles loom like giants, and bioengineered species―formerly extinct―roam free.<br />
<br />
Ana is one of seven Fantasists, beautiful “princesses” engineered to make dreams come true. When she meets park employee Owen, Ana begins to experience emotions beyond her programming including, for the first time… love.<br />
<br />
But the fairytale becomes a nightmare when Ana is accused of murdering Owen, igniting the trial of the century. Through courtroom testimony, interviews, and Ana’s memories of Owen, emerges a tale of love, lies, and cruelty―and what it truly means to be human.</blockquote>

<br />
<i>The Kingdom</i> is probably the book that I have been surprised by the most so far this year. Seeing this gorgeous cover I knew immediately that I had to read this one. I wrongly suspected that this book was going to be some sort of retelling with a Disney influence... and it kind of is but it is so different to what I was expecting... in the best way possible.<br />
<br />
<i>The Kingdom</i> is set in a dystopia-like Disney Land theme park where the princesses are part android. We follow the story of Ana, one of the princesses who starts experiencing the impossible... feelings. She has been engineered to not feel anything, so knows for her own safety she needs to keep this hidden. But as things get stranger and stranger around The Kingdom who can she trust?<br />
<br />
<i>The Kingdom</i> was a very fast-paced read and I finished it within a couple of days. One thing I loved about <i>The Kingdom</i> is the mash up of genres. It was kind of sci-fi, with a twist of thriller and mystery and I loved that. Those are all genres that I love reading so a book where it's a mixture of them all... it was the perfect read for me. I also adored how this book was told. It's told in a mix of flashback prose, interview transcripts and reports. I loved the difference in storytelling type and loved experiencing those different elements. It worked absolutely perfectly for this book.<br />
<br />
<i>The Kingdom</i> was fantastic. I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would. I was left wanting more and I'm a bit upset that it's a standalone and there isn't a sequel coming. I would definitely read that sequel. I highly recommend this book to anyone. It's action-packed, fast-paced and has a heart warming romance. I really enjoyed <i>The Kingdom</i> and I will definitely be on the look out for books from this author in the future.<br />

Hey Guys,<br />
Can you believe it's May already? I feel like April went pretty damn fast despite all the craziness going on in the world. I don't know about you but I've just been burying my head in my books and their amazing fictional worlds in an aid to get through it. I'm still working, from home, but all my other time is spent reading... and reading... and reading, so I had a pretty great book month.<br />
<br />
So with out further adieu, here is my month in books.<br />

</i></b> I went a tad bit crazy with my book buying this month. I've been so good on my book buying ban this year and then lockdown hit and I clearly just decided I was going to buy all of the books. In my defence, all of the ones in the first picture I have already read I just needed them for my collection.<br />

<b>From Goodreads:</b><br />
<b>From the New York Times bestselling author of The Night Circus, a timeless love story set in a secret underground world--a place of pirates, painters, lovers, liars, and ships that sail upon a starless sea.</b><br />
<br />
Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood. Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues -- a bee, a key, and a sword -- that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to an ancient library, hidden far below the surface of the earth.<br />
<br />
What Zachary finds in this curious place is more than just a buried home for books and their guardians -- it is a place of lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead. Zachary learns of those who have sacrificed much to protect this realm, relinquishing their sight and their tongues to preserve this archive, and also those who are intent on its destruction.<br />
<br />
Together with Mirabel, a fierce, pink-haired protector of the place, and Dorian, a handsome, barefoot man with shifting alliances, Zachary travels the twisting tunnels, darkened stairwells, crowded ballrooms, and sweetly-soaked shores of this magical world, discovering his purpose--in both the mysterious book and in his own life.</blockquote>

<b><i>"But the story wanted an ending. Endings are what give stories meaning."</i></b><br />
<br />
<i>The Starless Sea</i> is very different to my usual reads. Honestly, had it not been featured in one of the Illumicrate boxes I probably wouldn't have bought it as it's not something that grabbed me from the cover. Saying that, however, I am glad that I picked this one up as it's such an enjoyable and compelling tale.<br />
<br />
<i>The Starless Sea</i> is, at its heart, an ode to anyone who loved books. It is a celebration of all kinds of literature and this love of stories, fiction and poetry, fables and novels, is evident on every page. That is the thing that completely drew me in to this book. My love of everything bookish made me truly appreciate what this book was doing. I did, personally, find this book really slow going which was difficult for me but the beautiful writing style made me persevere and I am glad that I did.<br />
<br />
Prior to this I have never read anything by Erin Morgenstern before. I have heard everyone raving about her debut <i>The Night Circus</i> which is currently sat on my shelf waiting to be read but I just haven't got around to picking it up. I need to rectify that very soon as I absolutely adore Erin's writing style. It was the thing that got me through the slow build up because her writing style is so lyrical and beautiful. Honestly, <i>The Starless Sea</i> is so expertly written. Erin has woven a complex and intricate masterpiece in this novel. It's filled with so many beautiful and thought-provoking fables and I loved seeing how they all interlinked and came together with the main storyline.<br />
<br />
Now my one gripe about this book was the pacing. There were so many pacing issues. It started off so very slowly. I'm a fantasy fan through and through and I find with fantasy books it is slow to start, so I'm used to this. However, this was slow for quite a while and I was so confused for the first 50-100 pages. I didn't have a clue what was going on. The storyline picked up as things started to interlink together but just as it would get super exciting... the pace slowed down again. This was something that definitely affected my overall enjoyment of this book.<br />
<br />
<i>The Starless Sea</i> is superbly written and it is a beautiful tale showing love of all things books and I loved that. I am so very glad I read this book but it's probably one that I wouldn't personally re-read. If pacing doesn't bother you and you love intricate tales that are written beautifully then I highly recommend this book for you. I will definitely be picking up other works by Erin... just for that gorgeous writing style that she has.<br />

I have been a huge fan of Sarah J Maas since she released her debut, <i>Throne of Glass</i>. I have since read and loved every single one of her books so you can imagine my utter excitement to get my hands on her very first adult fantasy novel. <i>House of Earth and Blood </i>was most definitely my most anticipated release of 2020 and I wasn't disappointed at all. What an absolute gem of a book this is.<br />
<br />
<i>House of Earth and Blood </i>has everything you could possibly want in a fantasy novel. You have witches, angels, fallen angels, shifters, fae... you name it, it is in this novel. Sarah J Maas has weaved an incredibly complex world filled with so many of these creatures... but wrote in a totally new and fresh way. I can't even count how many books I've read in the past with these types of creatures but I felt like I was hearing about them for the very first time while I was reading this book. It's fresh, new and completely unique.<br />
<br />
As with the majority of fantasy books it took me a while to get into it. In the first few chapters there's a lot of information for you to digest but after a few chapters something happens that completely grabbed me. I'll be honest before this happened, I was struggling a bit with the book. It was incredibly slow to start but it was so worth persevering because what was to come was completely epic! We follow this story through Bryce's eyes and she is such a complex character and I truly loved her. She has been through such awful things in her life and I felt absolutely everything along with her. To me this is the sign of a phenomenal storyteller. If I can feel everything along with the characters then they have done their job perfectly. I felt everything while reading this book. I was heartbroken and then happy, and then heartbroken again. It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster ride.<br />
<br />
<i>House of Earth and Blood</i> was the perfect start to a epic series. I truly loved this book and while it's not my favourite book of Sarah J Maas' it certainly has the potential to become my favourite series of hers with the future books. From her other series I have found that her books later in the series are often my favourites. I did feel like <i>House of Earth and Blood</i> maybe didn't need to be quite as long as it was. At 800 pages, it's a huge book for the first in a series and I do think some of it could have probably been cut out without losing the effectiveness of this story but I did still love it and I can't wait for book two... I just know it's going to be phenomenal!<br />
