Top 10 of 2018: Captivating Characters

~ Top 10 Favourite Characters of 2018 ~

10. Emmett from Nyxia (Nyxia #1) by Scott Reintgen

Nyxia was a book that I read earlier this year and I absolutely loved the main character Emmett. He goes through a massive journey throughout the book and he is just filled to the brim with bravery, kindness and love for his family. All of the things that I would love in a character.

I honestly can't wait to see what he is going to get up to in the other books.

9. Khalid from The Wrath and the Dawn (Wrath and the Dawn #1) by Renee Ahdieh

I never expected to love Khalid as much as I did in this book. He starts off as the villain as he is the king that chooses a bride only to kill her the very next day... but the more you read the more you see this kinder side to him and there's much more to the story than meets the eye. He is going through something horrific and hates what he has to do and it just made me fall head-over-heels in love with him. Now, writing this, I want to re-read this series all over again!

8. Bram from Eve of Man (Eve of Man #1) by Tom and Giovanna Fletcher

Bram was my favourite character to read the perspective of throughout Eve of Man. While Eve was quite naive and didn't really know much about life, Bram knew a lot of what was going on and you saw him go through this journey of discovering the dark side of the society he was a part of. I loved him as a character and I can't wait for book 2 to see what happens with him.

7. Camellia from The Belles (The Belles #1) by Dhonielle Clayton

The Belles was a highlight of the year for me and part of that reason was Camellia. I loved following the story through her eyes, from her believing this world was as it should be to her realising the darker side and her role in it. She grows into this strong, independent and defiant woman who will fight for what she believes is right and I loved that. I cannot wait to see how she develops even further in the next book.

6. Silyen from Bright Ruin (Dark Gifts #3) by Vic James

The Dark Gifts series is one that I read in its entirety this year and although there were many, many characters that I loved in this series Silyen tops it as my favourite. You just don't know how to take him at times. He is cold and manipulative but then can show great signs of kindness and compassion and I loved that about him. You didn't know what side of him you were going to get and I loved not being able to figure that out. I am keeping my fingers crossed for a spin off series all about Silyen!

5. Scarlet from Lion Heart (Scarlet #3) by AC Gaughen

Scarlet, otherwise known as Maid Marion, is definitely one of my favourite characters that I have read this year. She's just so different from what we have come to expect from the infamous Maid Marion. She doesn't wait for Robin Hood to save her she gets up and fights and goes and saves him instead and I loved that so much. She's an incredible heroine and one I can't wait to re-read in the future.

4. Yrene from Tower of Dawn/Kingdom of Ash (Throne of Glass #6/7) by Sarah J Maas

When compiling these lists I knew I just had to include a character from this series as it's one of my favourites but I was torn by which character and I decided to go with the quiet hero, Yrene. I adore Yrene as she is quiet yet so brave and kick-ass in her own way. I adored Tower of Dawn so much, it's actually my favourite of the series as she is a total badass heroine but in a more laid-back un-obvious way and I loved that!

3. Devlin from Moonlight Scandals (de Vincent #3) by Jennifer L Armentrorut

This may not technically count for this list as this isn't even published yet but I've read an ARC so he (to me) technically is a character from a 2018 read. I loved Devlin way, way more than his brothers who were featured in the previous book in this series. He was just holding so much in to protect his brothers and had been hurt in way more ways that you would think and I couldn't help but love him the most!

2. Seth from The Prophecy (Titan Series #4) by Jennifer L Armentrout

A few years ago, I'd have laughed in your face if you'd have told me that Seth would be featuring on a favourite characters list. I hated him throughout the Covenant series but throughout the Titan series my love for him has grown and grown and in The Prophecy he totally broke my heart. He is such a self-sacrificing character and he really showed how much he has grown from that arrogant boy we met in Half-Blood. I adore him!

1. Luc from The Darkest Star (Origin #1) by Jennifer L Armentrout

I adored Luc in the Lux series but as a 'he's a funny weird little brother' type character. I loved him so much more in The Darkest Star. We see a totally different side to Luc, both a kind and caring and loving side and he has fast become and all time favourite character. I absolutely cannot wait to see what he gets up to in the next book of this series. Is it 2019 yet?

Who were your favourite characters this year?
