Cover Reveal: The Accidental Life of Jessie Jefferson

OMG Guys,
Today is soooo exciting!
(Okay so the other day was so exciting but I didn't have time to post today so let's pretend it's today okay?)

One of my all time favourite authors, the author who is the reason I blog, the reason I read, the person who started my book obsession, Paige Toon has come to the dark side YA side.

I have fallen in love with her adult chic-lit books and honestly there is no chic-lit author out there who rivals the Queen that is Paige Toon. Well today we have the cover of her first ever YA novel. The first in a series. Check it out.

From Goodreads:
The first YA fiction novel, from the bestselling adult author Paige Toon.
Meet Jessie, the daughter of Johnny Jefferson, as featured in Johnny Be Good and Baby Be Mine…
My fifteenth birthday was the worst day of my life, and it's inconceivable to think that any single day in my future will ever be as bad. My mum was killed in a freak accident on her way to pick up my cake. Even when there was still no sign of her after two hours later, and my friends started to arrive at our house, it never occurred to me that she wouldn't be coming back.
That was six months ago. My mum died without telling me who my real dad was. And for a while I hated her for it. I thought she's taken the secret of my father's identity with her forever. But she didn't. Holy hell, she didn't. Because three weeks ago I found out the truth. And I'm still reeling from the shock of it. My dad is none other than Johnny Jefferson, mega famous rock star and one-time serial womaniser. And now I'm on my way to LA to meet him and his family.
My tiny little world has just got a whole lot bigger…

Honestly I don't know what I am more excited about. The fact that I adore YA novels and Paige Toon is FINALLY releasing a YA series...
The fact that said YA series is a spin-off from one of my FAVOURITE BOOKS EVER!

I don't know whether y'all know but Johnny Be Good is one of my fave books ever. I must have read it about 10 times. It's just perfection!

So you know what you need to do?
Add the book to you TBR/Pre-Order/Wishlist now and go and read the backstory of Jessies' super-HAWT dad

Genre: YA - Suspenseful Romance

From Goodreads:
What does it feel like when you die—in those final moments? Do you feel the physical pain, or just the pain of your regrets? What does it feel like when you realize you can’t answer these questions because you’re not the victim?

You’re the killer.

River Daniels lives an ordinary life as a high school junior growing up in the confines of rural Texas until her boyfriend’s brutal attack leaves her both a murderer and a fugitive. When River’s closest girlfriends come to her aid, they make a hasty decision to not only help her, but leave their own troubled lives behind and join in her escape. The girls manage to elude police for months, but with every near-miss, River’s life spirals further out of control, until she finally hits rock bottom. Realizing she must stop endangering her friends and find evidence proving she acted in self-defense, the girls decide to make a risky move. River must face her ugly past and the one person she was protecting the night her world caved in, the guy she has loved for as long as she can remember

Doesn't it just sound incredible? I cannot wait to read this!

Now please welcome the wonderful Colette...

Hi Colette,
Thank you for being here on K-Books and joining me for this feature.
Well I am such a massive fan of Spencer Hill Press, including the new imprints Spence City and Spencer Hill Contemporary. What’s it like being a part of the amazing Spencer Hill Press family?
It’s been super exciting! Marie Romero, my editor, is a genius and I’m extremely impressed by the way the rest of the staff has come together as a team to make this book happen!
So you have a book, Running on Empty, coming out with Spencer Hill Press in November. How excited are you about releasing it into the world?
Off-the-charts excited!!! My journey to publication has definitely been a marathon triathlon, not a sprint. J
Running on Empty is the first release from new imprint Tulip Romance. How does it feel to be the first Tulip Romance author?
SPECIAL!!! With all caps and lots of shouty explanation points. J Oh, and smiley faces.
So talk us through your typical writing routine.
Hmmm, since I have three kids to work my schedule around, I’m not sure anything is typical. But a great day for me is starting at 7:00a.m. as soon as they leave for the bus, sometime before noon fitting in a walk and lunch, then writing until about 4:00. After picking them up from sports, games, doing homework, dinner, bedtime etc., I like to work for a couple more hours until the brain goes to mush.
*Notice I left out household chores—they are not included in a “great day.”
Is there any particular character that you enjoyed writing more than others?
I honestly loved writing them all, but besides River, Kat was a lot of fun—she’s snarky, dry, and straightforward, but she’s also fiercely loyal. And she curses like a sailor.
Are there any particular scenes that you enjoy writing more than others?
Well, there is this one particular make-out scene in ROE… I was very hesitant and chicken to write it at first but when my editor commanded encouraged me to turn up the heat, I stopped thinking and let it take me where it wanted to go. In fact, she even had me rein it in just a bit. J
But we’re both very happy with the way it turned out—it’s steamy yet emotional and it has a real purpose for being in there.
So your book is about running from your past, what inspired you to write about this?
Like River, I grew up in a small town and often felt stifled. Sometimes I just wanted to get away and start all over. River imagines a different life but then her dreams become a horrific reality after her boyfriend attacks her.
What hit me from the blurb was the main character being a murderer and a fugitive. What inspired you to write about this issue?
Because it’s autobiographical.
Kidding… Believe it or not, this all started with a dream—the most vivid dream I’ve ever had. There is a scene where the girls are running away (this is on the cover blurb so I’m not giving anything away) and it was so intense that I woke up and just had to know what these teenage girls were running from that was so awful.
Killing her boyfriend is what my demented brain came up with.
Running on Empty is categorized as a Suspenseful Romance. What made you decide to write in this genre?
It was never a ‘decision’ on my part, it’s just where the story took me.
So is there any inside information or sneak-peaks that you can give us?
As a matter of fact, here’s the opening…
I always assumed my final moments on this planet would be more dramatic—that I would at least go out fighting. I thought I would be filled with panic, desperately clawing for that last breath like they do in the movies. But all I really felt was an eerie calmness, a peacefulness that wrapped around my whole body like a warm blanket. It figures that I'd find the feeling I'd been searching for just before my death.
While I waited for angels to swoop down and retrieve my spirit (assuming I was heading north instead of south), I thought of a book I’d once read. It suggested when we die we each experience our own kind of heaven with all five senses. I had made a mental list of my made-to-order heaven, and oddly, I was able to recall it as I lay there in a pool of warm blood.
If the book was right, then I looked forward to hearing the thunder of horses’ hooves, the familiar scent of a worn leather saddle, and the sweet taste of honeysuckle. I welcomed the sight of my Prince Charming on his noble steed (for me, this was the Stetson Cowboy on a brown and white Paint). Instead, a more realistic vision filled my head. It was The Texas Bulletin newspaper with my name listed under the obituary section—no front-page story, no color print, no bold type. It read simply: River Jade Daniels, age 17, dies of self-inflicted gun shot wound, which was so far from the truth…
And finally what can we expect from you in the future after Running on Empty?
Well…I’m very excited to say that I’m writing Kat’s story. More to come on that after the official announcement in Publisher’s Marketplace so stay tuned!

Waiting on Wednesday

Hey Guys,
Time for another Waiting on Wednesday post and today is very very special. Why?

It's a JLA Special!

That's right people. The genius that is Jennifer L Armentrout has so many awesome books coming out and we all know I am a crazy obsessive fan so I thought I'd do all my fangirling at once and do a JLA Special Waiting on Wednesday.

Now let me remind you of the JLA Books I'm waiting on but have already featured...

White Hot Kiss (Dark Elements #1) was featured on September 4th. It's due for release in March.

Now onto our JLA special...

Bitter Sweet Love (Dark Elements #0.5)
Jennifer L Armentrout

Published By: Harlequin Teen
Publication Date: December 1, 2013
Genre: YA - Paranormal / Gargoyles
 photo goodreads-badge-add-plus-d700d4d3e3c0b346066731ac07b7fe47_zps3cd819f5.png

From Goodreads:
In a sizzling prequel novella to her new series THE DARK ELEMENTS, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout draws readers into the extraordinary, irresistible world of Wardens and demons.

Dez wasn't just Jasmine's crush. A gargoyle Warden like Jas, he helped her come to terms with her destiny—fending off demons and maintaining balance between good and evil. He was her everything...right until the moment he disappeared without a trace. It didn't help that Jas's father had just announced that she and Dez would one day be mated. Hard not to take that personally.

And now he's back, three years older, ten times hotter, ready to pick up exactly where they left off. But Jas isn't taking that risk again. Dez has seven days to meet all her conditions and earn back her trust. Seven days filled with terrifying danger and sweet temptation. Seven days to win her heart—or shatter it all over again...

I may have already featured the first book in this series but I didn't feature the prequel purely because the cover hadn't been revealed at the time. Otherwise it would have been in the same post as White Hot Kiss.
I am sooooo excited about this series. I remember Jen telling me about it way before she got a publisher for it and I was dying to get my hands on it then. I am so excited to read the prequel to see what's going to happen and reading about these uber cool Gargoyles.

I am so excited...

Be With Me (Wait For You #2)

Genre: NA - Contemporary Romance

From Goodreads:
Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

There are no words to explain how excited I am for Teresa and Jase's story. I was lucky enough to beta read the first in this NA Contemporary series, Wait For You, for Jen and as soon as I met Teresa and Jase I wanted a story with them. Seeing them a bit more in Trust in Me made me even more desperate for their story so February cannot get her fast enough. It needs to be here... like right now! This is my favourite NA Contemp series and I need more.

From Goodreads:
Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it's one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She's getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she's falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn't just buried deep inside of Sam's memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

Okay honestly... out of all three of these this is probably the one I am most excited for. I seriously cannot wait for it. I heard about Don't Look Back like forever ago and I need it already. It sounds awesome and creepy. I admit I am so not a fan of creepy as I scare so easily... but... it's JLA so obviously I'm going to read it. And dude look at that cover... it's so creepy! I need this book but I need it now. It's creepy so it should totally be coming out now for Halloween right? Shame we have to wait until April.

So that's all...
Do you love JLA? Which JLA book are you most looking forward to?
Leave me a comment and let me know.

Genre: YA - Dystopia
 photo goodreads-badge-add-plus-d700d4d3e3c0b346066731ac07b7fe47_zps3cd819f5.png

From Goodreads:
Darrow is a miner and a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he digs all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of the planet livable for future generations. Darrow has never seen the sky.

Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better future for his children.

But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity already reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and sprawling parks spread across the planet. Darrow and Reds like him are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.

Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow joins a resistance group in order to infiltrate the ruling class and destroy society from within. He will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies... even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.

Honestly I hadn't heard of this book at all, nor the author, until I got an ARC of this book through my door from the UK Publisher, Hodder & Strougton. Reading the Press Release that came along with it I instantly because super excited and it shot right to the top of my TBR list. At the time of writing this post it is sat as one of my very next reads so by the time this goes live I hopefully will have devoured the book.

I am a massive fan of YA dystopia novels and this one just sounds fan-freaking-tastic. I am so excited I can't wait to get started on it.

What do you think?

Hey Guys,

 The Zodiac Collector
Laura Diamond

Published By: Spencer Hill Press
Publication Date: May 2014
Genre: MG - Paranormal / Fairies

For almost-16 year-old Anne Devans, the annual Renaissance Faire means three things—her dad spending weeks in the smithy, her bipolar mom doing some manic costume making, and another ruined birthday for her and her twin sister, Mary.

This year, Anne wants things to be different, and she's going to do things her way.

On the eve of the Faire, Anne (along with a reluctant Mary) conjures up a spell that will make their 16th birthday party a whirlwind event. Little do they know that it's a literal request.

After the mini tornado in their room subsides, the girls realize they've invoked the power of the Gemini Twins, Castor and Pollux. That's the good news. The bad news is they also caught the attention of a sorceress named Zeena who has been collecting children born under each Zodiac Sign to enhance her power. Once she captures Anne and Mary, Gemini twins, the entire Zodiac—and the world—will be hers.

Anne leads the fight against Zeena, but her one-sided decisions could throw them into a world so far from home, even the Renaissance Faire would seem like a brilliant vacation. Between managing their new Zodiac powers, dodging their manic mother and trying to stop Zeena, they'll get a 16th birthday they'll never forget.

I think this one sounds pretty awesome! I'm really looking forward to reading this one. It sounds fun and interesting and although middle grade isn't my usual age group I have been reading more of it lately and hearing how unique this one is makes me wanna read it a lot.

And now for another cover reveal from SHP. You may have already seen this one but I didn't have time to post it so I'm posting it now.

Angelle Prejean is in a pickle. Her family is expecting her to come home with a fiancé—a fiancé who doesn’t exist. Well, he exists, but he definitely has no idea Angelle told her mama they were engaged. Tattooed, muscled, and hotter than sin, Cane can reduce Angelle to a hot mess with one look—and leave her heart a mess if she falls for him. But when she ends up winning Cane at a charity bachelor auction, she knows just how to solve her fiancé problem.

Cane Robicheaux is no one’s prince. He doesn’t do relationships and he doesn’t fall in love. When sweet, sultry-voiced Angelle propositions him, he hopes their little game can finally get her out of his head. He doesn’t expect her to break through all his barriers. But even as Angelle burrows deeper into his heart, he knows once their seven days are up, so is their ruse.

~ My Review ~

Having been a fan of Rachel Harris since the moment I read her debut YA novel, My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century, I was so excited about her Adult Romance series. After devouring Taste the Heat and hearing that Rachel was writing Cane's story I could not wait to read it. Imagine my utter excitement when she said I could be one of her beta readers for it... *insert OH. MY. GOD. Squeal here* Seven Day Fiance is everything I expected from a Rachel Harris novel and more. It completely blew me away.

Rachel Harris has once again proven herself as a fantastic author and I am just completely in love with her writing style and story telling. Her romance books and fantastic and are so easy to read that once you start you just get completely lost in the story and cannot put the book down because it's so amazing and addictive.

Now in Taste the Heat I fell head over heels in love with Jason... After Seven day Fiance? Jason who? It's all about Cane people. He is just so .... *droool* He's drop dead gorgeous, can cook... and has tattoos.... *swoon* I fell head over heels in love with him. He is hte typical bad boy that every girl will fall head over heels in love with. The more of this book I read the more I loved Cane and by the end... yeah I had it bad for him. He is officially one of my favourite book boys ever!

Rachel Harris is officially my hero! I'm not saying why because that would totally spoil a very important part of the book but after reading one particular chapter I just had to email Rachel to say how she was my hero because of one particular character development. Angelle is officially one of my favourite characters ever and I loved how Rachel created her. She is hte perfect book and it is about time we had a character like Angelle gracing the pages of an adult romance novel. If you've read the book you'll know exactly what I am talking about... if you haven't well go read it now!

Seven Day Fiance is without a doubt one of the best romance novels I have ever read. Rachel has definitely found her stride in writing contemporary. I loved every moment of it and it has everything that any romance fan will want. A super awesome and realistic heroine that we can all relate to, a super hot bad boy who is totally perfect deep down. Lots of red-hot chemistry and heart-fluttering romance. It's a must-read for everyone. I love it and couldn't put it down.

I Still Haven't Read...

This weeks pick is...

Camille Series by Tess Oliver:

#1 Camille
#2 Heart of the Huntress (Haven't Got Yet)

Camille was one of the first books I downloaded onto my kindle when I first got it 2 and a half years ago. I love the cover and it sounded pretty damn awesome. I haven't really seen many reviews of this one and I don't think it's got a lot of publicity but it's got a werewolf theme and I'm interested to see what happens. I didn't actually know until now that it was a series so I'm definitely interested to read it. I'm not a big fan of the cover of book 2 though. I know it's Pepe and Sztella and I adore them but the first cover is so beautiful and I like matching covers, and Heart of the Huntress doesn't match.

Have you read this series?

Review: Of Poseidon (Syrena Legacy #1)

Of Poseidon (Syrena Legacy #1)
Anna Banks

Published By: Fewel & Friends: An imprint of Macmillian Publishing
Publication Date: May 22, 2012
Date Read: October 14, 2013
Genre: YA - Paranormal / Mermaids
Source: Bought
Format: Hardback
Pages: 324
 photo goodreads-badge-add-plus-d700d4d3e3c0b346066731ac07b7fe47_zps3cd819f5.png

From Goodreads:
Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma's gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom...

Told from both Emma and Galen's points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

"I'm saying you're what I want, Emma. I'm saying I'm in love with you."
You know one of those books that when it first releases you have to buy it like right now coz you've been waiting for it for like forever... but then life happens, you get distracted by other books and over a year later it's still sitting unread on your shelf? Yeah that is what Of Poseidon is for me. I was so excited about it when it first released and then it sat there for so long I guess I kind of overlooked it for a long time. Well the time finally came when I was like yeah I'll read Of Poseidon now... DUDE what the heck was I waiting so long for? This book is freaking awesome. It's fair to say I am now kicking myself for not cracking this book open as soon as it was in my hands.

Emma is on vacation with her best friend when she runs into the super-hot Galen... no literally like smack, bang falls into, face squished on his chest, runs into. Emma is mortified and can't get away from him fast enough. But Emma is about to see Galen a whole lot more. After the tragedy of losing her best friend Emma is devastated. But when Galen turns up as a new student at her school things are about to change. Galen isn't human. He's a Syrena and Emma is showing the gift of his people and he is certain that she is the key to saving his kingdom. Can Galen convince Emma of her gift... and can he sacrifice the first girl to stir up feelings in him to save the future of his people?

Seriously I cannot believe how long I waited to read this. I mean right from the start I was completely addicted to this story. I have to admit that I haven't read a whole lot of mermaid/seapeople books and I definitely wouldn't include them in a "favourites" list but Of Poseidon might just be the exception to that. Anna's fantastic storytelling skills completely hooked me from the start and I just couldn't put it down. I absolutely loved it.

Emma... Man I just loved her. She's a complete clutz always tripping over stuff and falling into people and she just had my giggling right through the book at her clumsiness. She is so awesome and a great character to associate with while reading. She's just a normal girl and I loved that. So many heroines are sometimes depicted as super-model gorgeous and their personality is perfect so I loved that Emma wasn't like that.

Galen... I was completely head-over-heels in love with Galen right from the start I absolutely adored him. He is such a sweeties and I loved how he wasn't a complete asshole at the start. So many YA male protagonists are just horrid and assholes at the start and then are nicer later. I loved that Galen was such a sweetie from the start... but he teased Emma a lot about her clumsiness and everything and I loved that. It made me laugh. And having two main characters that make you laugh is an instant win... have two main character AND the two supporting characters that make you laugh = BEST BOOK EVER!

Of Poseidon was such an awesome twist on the Poseidon/Triton tale and I loved seeing this new interpretation where they weren't gods but just kings of the sea. The incredible character, awesome storytelling and the twist on the tale had me speeding through this book and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

One thing I adored about this book is that it's told in split point of view. I loved that we got chapters from Emma's POV but that we also got chapters from Galen's POV. One thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the alternation between first and third person. When we got the story from Emma's point of view it was told in first person whereas when we got Galen's point of view it's told in third point of view. I wasn't really a fan of this and couldn't fathom out why it was like this. The more I read the more I got used to it. Honestly I'd have rather it have all been told in first person or all told in third person. I found the switch between the two a little strange and I was constantly wondering why it had been done.

Of Poseidon is such a fantastic book. I can't praise it enough. It's such a fantastic story and I cannot wait to get my hands on Of Triton. I seriously need to go order it like right now. I am so excited to see what happens next. I have to admit that I wasn't all that surprised by the twist I kind of saw it coming and had already figured it out but I still had that "I need the next book nooooooow" feeling. I'm so excited to see what happens with Emma and Galen. This is definitely a must-read series. I would recommend to anyone.

"I love you. More than you know. No matter what happens."
