Hey Guys,

The Camp Kiss That Started It All…

Lauren Carlson, a fourteen-year-old expert on the cosmos, superheroes, and science fiction trivia has a crush on her longtime camp friend, Seth. Book 1:

Camp Boyfriend

Genre: YA - Contemporary

From Goodreads:
The summer of her dreams is about to get a reality check.

They said it couldn't be done, but geeky sophomore Lauren Carlson transformed herself into a popular girl after moving to a new school halfway across the country. Amazing what losing her braces and going out for cheerleading will do. Only trouble is, the popular crowd is wearing on Lauren's nerves and she can't wait to return to summer camp where she's valued for her brain instead of her handsprings. She misses her old friends and most of all, her long time camp-only boyfriend, Seth. This year she intends to upgrade their relationship to year-round status once she's broken up with her new, jock boyfriend, Matt. He doesn't even begin to know the real her, a girl fascinated by the night sky who dreams of discovering new planets and galaxies.

But Matt isn't giving her up without a fight. As he makes his case to stay together, Lauren begins to realize his feelings run deeper than she ever would have guessed. What if the guy she thought she was meant to be with forever isn't really The One? Returning to Camp Juniper Point was supposed to ground her uprooted life, but she's more adrift than ever. Everything feels different and soon Lauren's friends are turning on her and both guys question what she really wants. As summer tensions escalate, Lauren wonders if she's changed more than she thought. Will her first big discovery be herself?

I adored this book so much...

Now I am so excited about this. From this series I fell head over heels in love with it and Seth. Seth is officially one of my top book boyfriend ever! I just adore him!

Camper of the Day: Seth...

Each week of the Camping Out Blog Tour, we’ll feature at least one Camper of the Day. This will let you meet some of the characters from Camper Juniper Point and help you get to know them a little better. You’ll snag some insider information you won’t get in the book!

Seth Reines
Age: 17 (in Camp Boyfriend)
Hometown:  Bloomington, Indiana
Family Members: Father- head wrestling coach at Indiana University
Pets: Fosters animals from the local pet shelter
Hobbies: Hiking, kayaking, rescuing wildlife, nature, reading Marvel comic books.
BFF: Julian
Voted at camp to be most likely to: Discover a plant that solves our energy crisis
Relationship Status: “It’s complicated”
His secret: He has major trust issues since his mother dropped him off at daycare and never came back. He wants to be more than a camp boyfriend to Lauren, but struggles to believe she’ll come back to him every summer. But this summer, he plans to make her his year-round girlfriend, trusting she won’t break his heart.

Favorite things about camp: Stargazing with Lauren, playing Dungeons & Dragons with his friends (otherwise known as the nerd herd :), raising tadpoles then releasing them as frogs, canoe trips, hiking mountains, sunrise swims.
Worst things about camp: Rules. He’s independent and mature for his age and wants to be free to take solo overnight trips, stay up past curfew with Lauren, and not have to make lanyards. Seriously. Just one year.

Seth, Lauren’s original camp boyfriend, is the strong, quiet type who gave Lauren her first kiss in Camp Kiss and now must fight for her heart in Camp Boyfriend. Smart, thoughtful and sensitive, Seth has been raised by a single father after his mother abandoned him on his fourth birthday. He is a fierce and loyal friend, a leader who’s looked up to by his Wander Inn bunkmates, a faithful boyfriend who, once he commits his heart, knows he’ll never get it back… at least not in one piece. He’s been Lauren’s best friend then camp boyfriend for years and this year at camp he’s planned to overcome his trust issues and ask Lauren to be his year-round girlfriend. Yet how can he take that risk after what she’s done this summer? Plus, he’s not sure if he knows her anymore since she’s lost her braces, glasses and started coordinating her clothes. He preferred Lauren’s natural beauty and wishes she would be the girl he first fell in love with. But he’s not giving up on her, or them, that easily. Especially when he sees that she’s struggling to figure out who she is too. He has to give her some space and hope that, in the end, she’ll realize what he already knows; they are meant to be together.

Seth has been one of our favorite characters to write because he has such a real and complex past that impacts his present. He’s someone we really root for in terms of wanting him to find lasting love. He’s a genuinely great guy whose good looks haven’t gone to his head. His intelligence, humility, compassion and sense of humor make him easy to fall in love with. I know both Joanne and I did and we hope the readers will too!

What was it like to write Lauren’s character? –
K: I adore Seth because, like him, it wasn’t easy for me to trust in relationships when I was a teenager. I understand why he would hesitate to commit fully to Lauren and it was almost painful, as we wrote, to see him struggle… wondering if he’d waited too long to be more open about his feelings. Lauren’s a dream that may slip away if he’s not careful. We’ve all made mistakes with people we love and Seth’s error isn’t unforgiveable by a long shot. In fact, both he and Matt are so sympathetic that Joanne and I went back and forth until nearly the end of the book in terms of whom Lauren would choose!

J: We took a lot of care in writing Seth’s character. He needed to be a strong candidate to win Lauren’s heart as well as come across as very distinct from Lauren’s other choice- Matt. Additionally, he needed to evolve from when the reader first meets him in Camp Kiss since there is a time lapse of two years between the books. Creating relatable, realistic characters is my favorite part of the writing process and Seth is one of my favorites.

***We’re taking a poll to see who will be our next Camper of the Day! Tell us which Camp Juniper Point character you want to know more about OR tell us what you think of Seth so far. Would he be the kind of by you’d choose as a boyfriend? Book boyfriend?
