Heven & Hell Tour!

Welcome to the Heven and Hell Blog Tour, celebrating the upcoming release of Book 1 in the Heven and Hell Tour, Masquerade.

A Bit About Cambria!

Cambria Hebert is an author, a blogger and latte sipper. She has an irational fear of chickens (EWWW!) and is obsessed with werewolves. She would rather have coffee (Starbucks please!) than food and her favourite TV show is the Vampire Diaries. (HELL-O Damon!) You can find her stalking the YA aisles of Barnes and Noble with her iPhone glued to her hand.

Today we welcome Cambria Hebert to K-Books to talk about her new book but first here is my review of her awesome book Masquerade.

From Goodreads:
Before. Everything was so much better Before. I wasn’t haunted by nightmares, my place at school was secure and my face was flawless. Now, I’m a freak and everything has changed. The worst part is that I can’t remember the night I was sentenced to the shadows. The memory has been stolen from me and I just can’t shake the feeling that someone, something is out there -watching.

Just when I think I have my life handled, Sam, with his intimidating golden stare and shiver inducing voice, makes me realize that I don’t know anything. He makes me see that my scars don’t matter. That they never mattered. I can’t help but fall for him, completely unknowing that he knows exactly how I got this way. Not knowing he was involved.

Heven has no idea how closely death stalks her. She has no idea what I have done to keep her alive. I fear the day she learns my secrets, finds out what I really am. But even then I cannot stop, I vow to make things right. Finally her hunter will be hunted, Heaven and Hell, faith and sin will battle, and we will be victorious. But first, Heven must learn to be what she never imagined. I know her strength is there – I feel it. If we are to overcome all odds, she must push past her flaws - her frailties - to become much more.
I really loved this book. After receiving the short prequel for review a few weeks ago I could not wait to get my hands on the full length novel, for the 'real' start to this series. I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. I loved every single second of it and became so hooked to the story and unable to put it down I almost missed my train home. Yes, no more reading at the train station for me.

Heven has always had the perfect life, she was pretty, popular and could have any guy she wanted. But that was before her accident. An accident she has no recollection of that left her with scars running down one side of her face. Now she believes she is ugly, she withdraws into herself and refuses to draw attention to herself. Enter Sam, the gorgeous mysterious new boy at school that Heven feels drawn to. But Sam is hiding a big secret. One that may force Sam and Heven apart forever.

I was completely blown away by this book. Every time I had to put the book down I just wanted to pick it back up again. I didn't want to sleep, I wanted to stay up all night and read to find out what was going to happen next. Heven is such a great character, I really felt for her throughout the whole book. She has had such a hard time lately, having to come to terms with her facial disfigurement and when things start looking up, bad things start to happen again. I love how vulnerable she was. Usually I'm all about the lead female character being strong and taking no crap from nobody and don't get me wrong she is a strong character but I loved seeing her vulnerable side. You can't expect her to be completely strong all the time and at the beginning of the book she isn't very strong. She is so ashamed of her face that she withdraws from everyone and I felt so sorry for her. The thing I loved most about Heven is how she grows as a character throughout the book. She starts off as a social outcast (or so Heven believes) and she grows stronger. She starts seeing herself and the world differently and I thought that was amazing. She overcomes so much and I love how she grows into a strong character who won't let fear run her life anymore. She's such a great character and she really develops over the book.

Sam. Oh, Sam. The first thing that comes into my head is just how much I love him. He is the character all the girls will fall in love with. He's strong, protective, gorgeous and mysterious. He is such a tortured soul and what girl doesn't love a tortured soul who needs saving? I love the way Sam is portrayed even before he meets Heven you see his love and protectiveness of her. I love that about him. He doesn't care about anything else, let alone himself as long as Heven is okay. I just love him. When his secrets start to come out I was reading with bated breath for Heven's reaction and praying that it didn't separate them.

What a brilliant start to a series and I am so excited to see where the story goes and cannot wait for the second book. Cambria is definitely an author to watch out for and I can't wait to read more of her work.

Now let's give a big warm welcome to Cambria!

Hi Cambria, I would just like to say welcome to K-Books and thanks so much for having me on the Heven and Hell blog tour.

Thank you so much for having me at your blog today!! I’m really excited to be here!

First of all tell us a bit about yourself.

Sure thing! I was born a pink cheeked little angel in a small town that all the doctors oohhhed and ahhhed over…. What was that? Oh. You didn’t want to hear all that? *sigh* Yeah, I know no one wants to read all that boring stuff… how about my STATS then?Name: Cambria HebertOccupation: Stunt double (Okay – not really but that would be cool)Real Occupation: WriterFear: Chickens. (They nasty)Obessession: Werewolves (They hot) and Skeleton KeysFavorite Food: Coffee (It IS a food) and I really like cereal. Kind of car I drive: Nissan PathfinderHousehold chore I hate most: Unloading the dishwasher (and seriously it ALWAYS needs done. *sigh*)

What sort of books do you usually read?

usually read young adult fantasy and paranormal. Sometimes I read adult in the same genre as well. A few of my favorites from the recent past are: Unearthly by Cynthia Hand ; Nightshade by Andrea Cremer ; and the Intertwined series by Gena Showalter

Are there any particular authors out there you really admire and are any of them your inspiration?

I think every author inspires me in some small way. But specifically, Gena Showalter is someone I really admire. She has a great fan base and has a lot of writing out there that is loved by her fans. When I was a child I really loved to read R.L. Stein – the Goosebumps series – and I think that really inspired me.

When did you know you wanted to become an author?

I have always had an interest in writing and reading and when I was a teenager (maybe 15 or so) I wrote a book – it wasn’t very good (LOL) but I still have it. After that teen years took over (boys, cars, friends, LOL) and then I got married and had two kids… but the desire to write stuck with me and one day I sat down and started writing, I haven’t looked back and I can’t imagine doing anything else now.

Now on to the book, I absolutely adored it. How did you come up with the idea for Masquearde?

One day I thought, “What would it be like to write about a girl who is disfigured?” It really kind of struck me because I hadn’t read anything like that before. I mean this girl can’t get away from what happened to her, she carries the scars on the outside for everyone to see. Then I started to wonder how she got disfigured…. The ideas grew from there.

Was there any 'real-life' events that changd the storyline while you were writing?

Hmmmm, the story line takes a lot of twists and turns (I think) especially toward the end… I wanted to write it so that the reader expected one thing but really it was something else entirely. So there were events in the story that definitely change where things go but real life events? I don’t think so.

Where was your inspiration for the characters?

Heven was the first character to come to mind. I was inspired to write her story because I felt like there might be others who could identify with her in some ways that needed a voice as well. My inspiration for Sam? My love of all things paranormal but also wanting to combine those elements into someone real. It’s really hard to say where the inspiration for them came from really. LOL. I started with Heven and then the other characters just came along and told me who they were.

I really fell in love with Sam while reading Masquerade and he is really a tortured soul in need of saving. Did you always plan to have those characteristics in your leading male character?

Sam was my hardest character to write. I added his POV to the story after the first draft was written – and I had to really work to get to know him. He was a mystery in some ways – even to me. Lol. I think on some levels I did plan on having those characteristics in him because I like to read that when I am reading but also because I think there is really something that draws you toward a person who has to learn how to be themselves – to accept themselves for what and who they are. But he really evolved as I wrote as well.

I was completely hooked to Masquerade fight from the beginning and it takes a really accomplished writer to do that let alone on one of your debut novels, what can we expect from you in the future?

Awww! Thank you! Hopefully, more of the same! Lol. I have already written the next two books in the Heven and Hell series and I think I have upped the ante a little bit. Lol. Personally, my favorite book in this series is book three titled Tirade. There is a lot going on in this series with new twists and turns, new characters and new action. I hope to keep the story line fresh and keep the reader wanting more. I also have another series (4 books) written – it’s a werewolf series (I mean really – did you expect me NOT to write about my obsession? Lol) and I hope that people will enjoy it as well when it comes out – hopefully someday. I also have a few other ideas lurking around inside my head as well.

I am so excited to read more in this series and find out what happens next. How many books do you have planned in the Heven and Hell series and when can we expect the next one?

here are 4 books in the Heven and Hell Series and I have a few short stories planned to go with them – short stories that will give the reader some more background information about some new characters coming in. The second book, Charade, is written and I am going to edit it in January and hopefully (fingers crossed – and pending approval from my publisher) have it out in the spring. I would then love to have the third book, Tirade out in the fall. The final book, Renegade – I am still working on and hopefully it will be out winter or early next year (2013). Now- this is what I am hoping for – it isn’t finalized yet – but you CAN be sure that the entire series will be published.

Finally, is there any advice you would give to budding authors out there?

Don’t stop writing! Writing and publishing can be a difficult and challenging business but it is rewarding. Even if you get a pile of rejection letters (I have about 100) don’t stop. Believe in yourself and just keep working at your craft.

Thanks so much for being here today Cambria and best of look on the rest of the tour.
